Default 94-97 accord timing belt install VS 93

i had found a great thread of a timing belt change on a 94-97 accord F22Bon this site and I have a 93 accord F22A and there is something about 3 teeth counterclockwise on the cam. my haynesmanual never said anything about 3 teeth on the cam. are all my marks needing to line up (cam tdc, crank tdc, balancer pointing to oil pump)? I like the thread with excellent pics and detailed 32 directions VS haynes 4 black and white photos and 10 steps which one is suited best for me and maybe you can point out which one(s) I dont follow. wont start the way it sits. Thank you for your time

Hmmm...that's interesting.

Just did a '94 Accord timing belt at the dealership and never heard such a recommendation regarding the cam gear.

Cam gear "up" should obviously be up, and to assure you that it is, there is a mark on the head which you can see when you remove the upper timing cover and valve cover. That's all I know. There's also the marks on the cam gear at 90 degrees clockwise and counterclockwise from the "up," and those should line up with the head or the upper timing cover (I think it was).

i know what you're talking about with the three teeth deal. once you have the belts on (t-belt and balancer) and you've confirmed that they are lined up, you turn CW 3 teeth and then back to TDC. this gets the slack in the belt onto the tensioner side so you can then easily set the proper tension.

even one tooth off will still run... poorly, but it'll run.

double check all your mark alignments. i like to use a small "mechanics" mirror or any small mirror taped to the end of a screwdriver to get just the right angle on the mark.
