I want to build ls/vtec using stock parts(on a budget)
I have a 95 rs stock and what I want to do is pick up a cheap b18b short block and rebuild it for high compression with stock parts. But the thing is that I'm building it on a budget so I want the best bang for my buck. I want you guys to give me your inputs as far as your thoughts and ideas and which parts are better for my set up because I'm not looking to spend on what I don't have to.
ls block
arp rod bolts
itr/p30 pistons-12:1 and lower;91 octane only
b16/gsr head- which one is better?
gsr tranny-maybe b16
itr/ctr cams
i/h/e-do i need im? bigger tb?
clutch/flwheel-wat kind?
balanced & blueprinted
Should I resurface the head? y/n, don't have to?
ecu--which chip would be best and cheap?
Again I'm building on a budget so please tell me which parts I need and don't as far as performance and money issues. Hoping to spend less than 1500-1700. Thanks and please reply.

Use the p30s, the itr pistons will need some machining to fit your ls rods, and your CR with a b16 or itr head with the p30's will be around 11.2-11.4:1 or so depending on how much you resurface from the head, block, and valve job, etc. Also, don't just get a chip or ecu off of ebay, at the very least get a chipped ecu from phearable.net, he's also here on H-T, PM "mtber" Then when you can, get it tuned.

you don't need a chip. just get a p28 and get it tuned. the tuner will socket your ecu for you. you can use stock throttle body cause you are running every thing stock preferably an itr. if not then get a 65mm . take a look at professional products, they're very nice and cheap.
So you're saying that just to pick up a virgin ecu and have a guy just socket it with a basemap or wat? I know this one guy in Sac, he socket my previous ecus but I don't think its tuned. He just ask me wat kind of set up I have and he puts it in and thats it. (crome) Is the better than say phearable.net?
since u are going with arp rod bolts, it wouldn't hurt to go with arp head studs. and about the head, use a straight edge (what ever its called) and a feeler gauge to see if the head is warped (a machine shop can do this for if u cant). if its good, then u dont have to resurface the head (unless it looks beat up etc.)
good luck on the build, make sure your budget includes tuning too! dont want to ruin a motor because u didn't want to tune it

no, you don't just put a chip in it. get it tuned. they will put your tuned program in your ecu for you. some good tuners i have experienced with since i think you are from nor cal check out PED, CTR, or DNR.
should i go b16 or gsr head for bettrer performance? I like b16 and maybe cheaper so I can upgrade to type r components if wanted to ....what the hp and trq u think with eithre heads? thanks again
im from sacramento umm I dont know where ped or ctr is located but theres midnight performance here dnr is in the bay if im correct..how much would they charge?

ok well maybe i'm worng but i was told on my ls/ vtec build to go with a b16 head if i'm lookin to do an all motor build with high comp.
gsr head gives u .2 comp or something like that.
some people use a b16 head because they can use a itr mani. but then u can always buy a skunk2 mani or something similiar. i believe bam bam said this in his ls/v post. take some time and read it. u'll gain a lot from it
