Default EcTune vs Crome/d16z6/Greddy kit+fmic

Ok, so I am upping my boost this month, yesssss!

I need thoughts on what spftware to get chipped on my ECU. I have heard that Crome should not be used for a boosted application, which sucks because that is what I was going to use lol. That said, I also heard that EcTune is good for FI setups, but honestly being new to the FI tuning game (my SOHC has been boosted for 2 years now off a fresh rebuild) I dont know much about the EcTune program and I hear Crome every-freaking-where.....

So, What should I use to tune my Boosted z6? Do you need more information to help a brother out?

Setup - Stock z6 w Greddy kit - eg hatch - p28 ECU - FMIC -- 2" before/2.5" after

ADDING before tune....
-DSM 450 injectors w resistors (gonna need help on this one too...lol, I will post this later though)
-Walbro 255

am I missing anything? I know i need resistors on the injectors, I will ask that later, im getting the ecu this week, so your thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks fools....

Crome is perfectly fine on a turbo motor. I used it for years. ECtune is damn good software though.

I would find a local tuner and use whatever software he is comfortable with.

Crome is cheaper, but lacks support.

I have a Crome gold/pro (whatever it is now a days ) license. If I were to do it all over again I would use EcTune for sure. Crome was awesome as a replacement for Uberdata, but I wouldn't pay money for it (again).

base crome is free. It works fine for tuning boost, but it is missing some features only available in pro/gold that you must buy in order to unlock. integrated Datalogging, electronic boost control, antilag, etc. are some of the features you get with pro/gold

Whom ever told you crome is not good with FI setups needs a smack in the face. I use it all the time! It works fine for me and customers everyday of the week! Yes ectune has better features and all, but there is nothing wrong with good ole crome except the lack of support like someone mentioned above.

Just so people know.

crome= free
crome pro= 149
crome dealer=450

With crome pro or the dealer version you can tune multiple cars with the same emulator/ostrich. With ectune its different. The emulator only works on one car.

ectune pro/single car=199 unless you need the emulator and datalogging components which is 200. TOTAL is 399

ectune dealer= 1250 plus 65 bucks per car tuned

I want the dealer version of ectune so bad. I just don't want to spend that much money on something with out trying it out first. I may just leap in head first though. [freak] it

well the reason I posted this is because Phearable (John Vega's site) is what says that about Crome....

Thanks for all the replies, but keep them coming. My ecu chipping is still about a week away and any opininions i get are much appreciated!

Crome works well, but to me it was a bit flaky. I bought eCtune and will never go back to using Crome. Electronic Boost Control is a good thing to think about and eCtune fully supports it.

think I am going crome.

I will upgrade to EcTune next time around with the built motor that I am putting together. Hopefully by the end of 2008!

I've tuned MANY cars on CromeGold and all are running incredibly well. CromeGold is MUCH better than CromePro in many ways. It's not Ectune or Neptune, but it's still capable and has the advantage of tuning multiple cars.

You also need at least a chip burner (burn1 85.00) and a datalogging cable (extreme hulog 35) for crome pro/gold if you are doing your own work. That's doing it the hard way without an ostrich, but it's possible.

so crome pro = 269 after you add the burn1 and hulog.

That's assuming you bought it and were doing your own tuning and not getting tuned at a shop since they will just need to chip you.Same with ectune, you won't need the ostrich and will just get a chip if you go to an authorized dealer.

J.mills If you really are interested in ectune, talk to calvin. He was letting people use trial versions for up to 7 days to see if they liked it enough to switch to it.Maybe he is still doing that.

I'm new to the tuning end of things I was woundering if you can tune ODB0, ODB1 without having a chip installed, reason being we have rules we need to follow where I race... I know its lame but they keep catching me with a chip, any help would be great thanks.

eCtune is a much better software then crome, things actually work the way they should!
The price difference when having your car tuned on eCtune versus crome by an authorized dealer is very minimal.

Other prospects to consider would be Neptune & Hondata.

for that mild setup. crome will work just fine.
ectune works well and you have tons of features to use.

Crome Pro user here. Boosted over two years on crome pro and making good power on 10psi with a 50trim.

If you were closer to the miami area I would hook you up.

I used crome for 1month, its OKAY and it work somewhat

made the switch to ectune for 2 days, and its SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better.
Much easier to tune
much more accurate datalogging
easier to setup

you cant compare the two, chalk and cheese.

ectune has a special for $150, if i were you i jump on it

If you have a local tuner that tunes Neptune/Ectune/Hondata then you would be stupid not to pay the small fee for an upgrade to better software.
