Default Tire Questions

Two part's: 1) Can anyone here cite any detriment to moving from 215/45's to 205/40's? This would be on a 7 inch wheel; presuming that sidewall stiffness is comprable b/w the two tires? and, 2) Has anyone used either the Khumo Ecsta MX or Yoko AVS ES 100 tire? How and what would you compare it to; per tireracks site, there isn't any real world data on the tire, but I don't have the luxury to wait.

Theoretically no, it shouldn't hurt you at all, if anything, might even have less slop, and the smaller overall diameter will give you better acceleration, because it's kind of like raising your final drive.

Yeah your car will scream on the highway. I'm running 215/40x16" tires where I'm supposed to run 205/45x16". On the highway at 80mph my car is screaming at 4500rpms! With my stock tires on at 80mph my rpms are at 4000rpms.

So your car should handle/respond better in corners, but your speedo will be off and your car will accelerate quicker, but at the cost of cabin noise.

Well the Kumho MXs are on permanat back order, which to me means Kumho found a flaw or they just really sucked and they are remaking the base compound or fixing the flaw. The Yok AVS ES100 are pretty new but there is a little feed back on Tirerack.Com but if you can wait about 4-6 weeks GRM did test those AVS and a few other high performance tires. Results should be exciting to see.
But hopefully these are better then the Paradas but I don't think they are nearly the same as the AVSi or AVS sports were. Sumitomo HTR Z are pretty sticky from what I've heard also and very affordable, results in testing show them to be on par with Kumho 712s.

Default Thanks for the replies.

...taking into consideration that these will serve as my daily street tires; I'll just default to a set of 712's.
