Had a weird idle, so I slapped our shop smoke tester on my car today. Found my problem... annnnnd one I didn't expect to find.

After hitting a 23psi boost cut this Sunday I went searching for vac leaks. Needless to say, I wasn't expecting my entire Synapse wastegate to start smoking.

I have lines on port A and D, port C was smoking (which means port D is leaking into it) and the base of the wastegate head was smoking (which means port A is leaking).



Circled in RED are where I had smoke leaking through. The two small circles are the C port openings.

Needless to say, I'm a little angry right now. Thank god I have boost cut...

Synapse, can we rectify this please? And please don't tell me the pistons seal with boost, because they clearly aren't.

*For the record. The Synapse BOV I have works great and no complaints here*

Major bummer. Seems like a nice unit, I wonder if more are doing this or you just got a bad apple.

I've had some issues with synapse stuff as well. I tried to speak with them about it at sema but their rep's were so cocky that they were not able to listen to anything I said for more than a few seconds. All I kept hearing was, "it's not a diaphragm".

Naturally, we don't use their products in any of our builds. Some of our customers have their BOV's, which work fine in my experience. Nice looking stuff, too.

Ran one for 2 years dude. I was having issues with that too, mostly because it is old.

That sucks to hear. Perhaps you should give them a ring though and let them take the opportunity to alleviate the issue.

This thread might seem as though you are just trying to bash them. Just a thought. I hope it all works out for you.

You can't take 5-10 minutes out of your day to make a phone call to them? I can't imagine that your so busy you can't take a few minutes out of your day to do that. Tomorrow when you go to take a **** just bring your cell phone in the bathroom with you to make the call. That way your really not taking up any time in doing so. BTW I don't think he's gonna respond to this thread, he's been banned so unless he comes in here with a different user name you won't get a response. I think that contacting Synapse should be the first step. With the hostility between Tial and Synapse, and with Synapse being the newer kid on the block, it's only going to snowball into another bash thread.

Contact Synapse and let us know what they have to say about it. I have several Synapse gates without issue, but if I come across a customer with a similar problem I'd like to have some knowledge about it.

Call them and let us know

I didn't know he was banned actually. Hence this post. Just trying to figure some things out and I'm sure if someone else had a similar problem they would have chimed in about it.

Also, please don't assume that you know how busy I am or am not, and do remember that I figured out the problem late today and I'm sure they're not open 24/7. I've sent an email and will give them a call tomorrow.

this issue doesn't seem to be half as bad as his wastegates that have been breaking in half at the base

not to be a dick, but I find this pretty funny. I remember reading how you had a tial waste gate before, and you were buying a synapse waste gate cause you liked their bov soo much, and every one told you not too...

just for the record, I was on your side with buying the synapse, I dont beleive just cause something isnt a certain brand that everyone loves and or knows that it is the only part that will work.
too bad it didnt work out.

That wastegate would look good on a onefab manifold.

Its cause the new HT rules state that you must be a sponsor to advertise your business or anything related to your business. So whomever hasn't become a sponsor and still advertises their business in their sig or screen name is banned when a mod sees it.
