del sol failed emissions
hi, I'm new here, but was told you guys/girls are very helpful.
I own a 1993 honda civic del sol si with the d16z6....
heres the story, took it to emissions just the way it was, FAILED, scored 399 on HC and maryland state limit is 220
so i replaced the pcv valve, plugs, wires, dist cap. took it back, FAILED, 367 on HC, once again state limit is 220...
any idea's? the car is completed stock except the cold air intake?!?!?!
please help, the sooner i fix this the sooner i save to swap motors...
p.s. this is my daily driver, i don't make enough money to be able to swap the motor by the time my next emissions comes to time. so i need to fix it to pass, then save for a swap.

Dificult to give a fast answer , how many miles ? , is it burning oil, try a can of good injector cleaner and run it couple hundred miles, also there is a can of stuff that says it WILL pass emissions, try your local auto parts store for it.
124k miles, old little bitch, runs like new, not burning any oil...
did the injector cleaner, that was part of my tuneup.....
ugh, guy at my work has a 8 second beast that he works on, told me it is either my cat which i hope not or my air to fuel ratio, i do get insane mileage....

if you got insane mileage, your A/F ratio would be LEAN and thus would pass with flying colors. There's two ways to pass emission in MD depending on where you live, either A- Lower the hell out of your car, Most places around me will NOT test a lowered/slammed car and will just write it off. B- Fix whatever could be wrong, to me it honestly sounds like you didn't get the Cat. warm enough before testing. Next time get the Cat. nice and warm with some spirited driving, or down shift to 3rd/4th and cruise at 50mph or so for 15 or so minutes before the test.
