hey guys im looking to put the b18c CTR engine in my 97 H/B,but i thought what about doing a 4G63 swap instead.so im wodering if anyone on this forum knows if its possible,and i dont need to hear "anything is possible" ,"why are you putting a mitsu in a honda",,im looking for some serious feedback ect..cost wayyyyy to much for custom fab'd parts,,no room .thanks to anyone who can help

 

I'm not sure which engine the 4g63 is or what car it belongs in. That info would help anyone who thinks they might want to help. I would wager that any time you put an engine from an entirely different line and make of cars you will need at least moderate fabrication and some serious know how. All in all though a front wheel drive engine is a front wheel drive engine. I hope you have the chassis attached to the 4g63 cause that will make a world of difference.

 

well itll be taken out of a talon or laser i belive from the place id get it from not an evo since that comes w.the all wheel drive tranny,yea i figured ill need custom mounts but also im wondering will it fit my 5sp with some custom work or not at all

You could also consider a fwd turbo set up from a GS-T, which would give you less fabrication in regards to a custom drive shaft. As well as mating the rear end, a hatch is a lot smaller than a Talon or Eclipse. You would need a complete wiring harness from the doner car, I'm not sure that a mitsu/honda spliced harness would be worth it or even feasible. Good luck which ever way you go, it's an interesting concept. I currently own a 93 EG Hatch as well as a 91 Talon TSi with heavy modification. Comparing apples to apples, I find Honda much easier to work on; it both terms of performance upgrades and general maint.

It'd cost more for the fabrication and wiring than just doing a "regular" Honda swap. If you have the money to blow, and go to enough car shows, then it might be worth it. But if you're just looking at it from a performance aspect, then don't waste your time or money. Personally, I don't think it'd be worth it unless you're going all out and fabricating for AWD. I don't see the point in doing that much work & spending that much money just to put in another FWD engine from another manufacturer. I hope you don't take offense to this, but if you really have to ask this here you probably don't have the info and knowledge to pull off a swap like this yourself. That will lead to a HUGE headache trying to get the thing in, in working order, but especially it will be a wiring nightmare. You'd be undertaking an entire revamp of the engine and interior harness', and then praying you can get all of your dash stuff to work (gauge cluster, climate control, wipers, head lights, turn signals, emergency flashers, etc). Lots and lots of work, lots and lots of time, lots of money.

of course its possible. but you have to remember that 4g63s arnt very reliable. you have to try and track down a 6 bolt motor, get a balancer shaft removal kit if you want the motor to last. building a 4g63 isnt expensive. therye are plenty of DSM guys out there with parts laying around. a lot of my friends drive 1G's and most of them have 2 or 3 parts cars, spare blocks for when the crank goes out of the back of the motor. but the hard part will be fabricating motor and trans mounts, finding someone to make axles, stronger hubs and unless you live 10 minutes from john sheapard and have friends that work for him you going to have to spend $1200 on a transmission rebuild if you want it to hold any power. if you wanna do whats cheapest and easiest stick with a honda power plant.
