Default which tranny is better?

hi guys. i'm a new menber. just got my gs-r a week ago and have a couple of questions. i'm currently running a si tranny because it came with the car. personally, i think the gearing is a little too short for my taste. have any of you have this and will a gs-r tranny be better?

Yes, gs-r is best all around tranny for the price. Remember shorter gears will potentially decrease your gas mileage and you know the deal with gas prices these days.

It has been discussed over and over...shorter gearing has little effect on gas mileage.

A heavy foot has effect on gas milage!

That said, I'm loving my b18b/GSR tranny combo.

I say keep the short geared SI transmission in there if you're about performance/acceleration. Put it this way, with the gsr transmission you will not be accelerating as fast since the gearing is a little longer 3rd-5th in the gsr transmission. Meaning if you raced another gsr with all variables equal except for the transmission, you would outrun the gsr with the gsr tranny. The SI transmission is U.S. integra Type R gearing except without the LSD fyi.

For example, I'm running an LS with bolt ons with an SI tranny and I'm lovin it! Really woke up the motor because we all know how lazy the LS tranny is after 2nd gear. As for highway rpm's 4400 at 80 mph is not bad at all. If you think the SI is unbearable on the highway, imagine the guys running the 4.7 final drive. Even that is not bad to some people. It's all based on preferance.

Gas mileage wise, I did not notice a "significant" difference in mpg drop if any. Remember gas consumption is based on throttle positioning not how high of an rpm you're at. Just compare the mpg on the factory LS,GSR, and Type R are they significantly different? Of course not.
