Default converting 90si to run on hondata s300. distributor issues. Need help, posting for a friend.

so hey my friend is a broke *** and has no internet so i'm posting this for him. he has a 90si hatch and we just converted to big turbo. the last step is getting it running on the hondata s300 ecu. Professional mechanic but not a big Honda guy so bear with me.

our problem is this, i guess during the conversion he has to change distributors in order to convert to obd1 i believe. he said everyone told him that you just put the distributor in and only bolt it in with one or two bolts instead of all three. we have tried it in multiple positions and cannot get it to line up right with the engine at 18 degrees btdc on cylinder 1. does anyone have a picture of the right way to install the distributor or have a link to a writeup on a similar build?

somewhat new to tuning on hondata as well. he has 440 cc injectors, would it be o.k. to initially get him running on the hondata d16a1 stock tuned map? i just wanna get it running on the hondata before we worry about getting into boost.

also ecu was professionally socketed so i'm pretty sure its not an issue with the ecu.

First that link is refering to a B16 motor, you have a D16 motor.

second what distributor do you have? the one in that link? if so, its for the wrong motor. you need and obd1 D-series distributor.

and for the tuning part you might try posting that question on the Hondata Forums.

its a 94 civic d-series distributor. i went to the shop this morning and figured it out, got it lined up at tdc and everything. now it runs but its pig rich at idle i'm going to set the injector size and see what happens. we are running stock 450cc injectors out of a gen2 eclipse gsx

also the distributor is maxed out to one side in order to get it to run. i believe it is set at around 16 degrees btdc. if i tried to advance the distributor to get it to stock timing (18 degrees btdc)then none of the bolt holes would line up.

well depending on what motor your using you can get a distributor to fit it correctly. If its a 88-91 SOHC you can use a 96-00 EX SOHC distributor. If its a 92-95 you'll have to use 92-95. If your going B-series just get a vtec or non-vtec depending on the head. I know I have tried some hack jobs to make a distributor work but the nothing works better then the correct one . If your running dsm 450's thats why your running rich at idle you will need to use the fuel calc to cut back the injector pulses at least at idle. You can retard the timing within hond@t@ but its better if you can get your base idle correct first.
