Looking at buying 02 EP3, anything specific to look for??
I'm looking at purchasing a 2002 EP3 this week, and was wondering if there was anything specific I need to look at. The car looks pretty clean and has a clean title, but I haven't dealt with an EP3 before and was curious about the power steering and what not. Thanks in advance.
So I dunno about any problems that have been happening with the power steering. I paid 15K for my 03 EP3 with 33K miles on it. I dunno whether I paid too much or not but it was worth it to me.
Good luck.
Good luck.
I'd read about camshafts failing, but I think that already would've happened by 45k miles.
Is there any other EP3 specific site? I've been reading ephatch, but all the good stuff seems to be lost.

The cams don't fail necessarily but have been known to have have "pitting" issues from poor castings.
This causes performance issues and occurs after higher-mileage. Running a thicker grade of oil (5w-30 vs. 5w-20) helps prevent this from happening, but you still may need to replace/upgrade the ol' bumpsticks at some point.
The other thing people have problems with are steering rack creak, and I've read people having this problem both with lowered cars and stock ride height. I'm really not sure what causes it but people describe an awful creak/clicking noise when turning and such. EPhatch.com used to have a HUGE mega-thread about this, but I'm not sure if it's there anymore with the site crash recently.
Other than that, the 02-03 models have the fugly headlights, 4 lug wheels, and lack of sideskirts, but that's about it!

Thanks for the advice, I'll listen closely to the steering rack.
I'm jealous of the 5 lug, but personally I think the 04-05 have the fugly headlights
Edit: What about the differences in seats? I've seen that the 04-05 have different seats, but nothing that says exactly what is different.
