Probably the most important piece of going FI on the S2000. You have to have a pretty big budget to make sure you get the turbo setup done right.
SC is a little cheaper because you can just bolt on a kit and go until you are ready to upgrade.

and he'll have to have money to back up his project just in case anything unforeseen arises...

how reliable the car is will be based on the tune, turbo and what you used to tune it with. If you dont know to much about this stuff just get the greddy kit. If you plan on building the car get the inlinepro kit or Full-race. Trust me dont just jump into boosting your car

used SC are great bargains, esp for those don't want to or don't know to mess with it all the time like a turbo. But again, if i have a SC i probably would throw the FMU in the trash and spend a grip on the tune.
to the OP: how deep is your pocket and what's your goal? a good budget and street tune is easy, but if you want a powerful car with day to day consistence=much bigger budget

That is the one thing i cannot get through my mind. An S2000 might be considered a high-end tuner car and 80% of the SC-ed ones are running an FMU. Frick, I had an AEM ems box on my turbo D series because I knew better... when i was 16.

You are going to have to say much more if you want people to accurately help you out.
Going turbo is not as easy as it originally sounds .. there is a lot more too it in terms of parts that have to be replaced from the beginning (clutch, exhaust, radiator, EMS, Injectors, Fuel pump etc) and parts that may have to be replaced once they go (which could turn out to be $$$)
Adding onto S2KILLA's q's:
- How much power are you looking for
- How much are you willing to spend
