Default What would be the smartest investment motor swap wise for my 90 DB1??

i have a 90 DB1 and i wasnt sure what engine to put in it. i have the stock ls in it right now and it doesnt get the job done. and it has ALOT of miles on it so im not wanting to put money into it... i was wondering what would be better between the GSR and the B16... what would be the better choice.. im not wanting to turbo either of them, im wantin to supercharge it if anything. im a 10mph - 70mph sharp corner kind of driver. not a straight away person. im wantin someting that i can just romp on for 20 minutes straight.. i want something that wont blow up or anything. what tranny and what engine do you guys think would be a better investment for a supercharged style car??

step#1: throw that fart can as far as you can.
step#2: join our squad, the DB1 squad

I'm thinking a GS-R ( B18C1 ) with a B16 tranny. Now...if you can get the JDM tranny with an LSD.....that would be even better

I'm thinking the shorter gear ratio will be a bonus for you I could be wrong. Others may suggest soley the B16A....and some might advise you to go for a straight B18C1 swap. But if it were me....I'd do what I suggested.

GSR swap. I wouldn't even think of putting in a B16

B17 with YS1 Tranny . Then just spend good money on sway bars, good shocks etc. since you're not interested in just going fast in a straight line.

b20 would be the wisest investment, cheapest motor with the most TQ. and the LS tranny would be fine. ive had a b16 in my DA and i would get beat by b20s all day long.

b20 if you want to go SC i would get a b17 or a b18c1 w/jdm b16 tranny my friend has a b18c with Vortec Charger kit on it makin 326whp fully built, now IMO i would rather go Turbo than Super charger less money and more power

yeah but for my style driving turbo isnt the way to go i think... i mean i take 10-15 mph corners at like 30-40 mph, stompin on it pullin through and if the turbo kicks in at the wrong time i dont want to have to constantly correct it all the time.. supercharge is imidiate* power.. whats the price difference between turbo'ing a b18c1 vs supercharging it.. with simaliar power.... im not to new to the tuner game but new to turbo and supercharge.

I hope you're not taking these turns on the street

You can always rebuild your motor and toss a vtec head on there and spend the rest on suspension.

I've seen people auto X with small T25 turbos and they handle boost just fine.

LIke that guy said, b18c1 with b16 tranny My friend runs 13.6 with a stock b18c1 with a b16 tranny in his EG6. Only mod he was using was a Cold Air Intake and he was running with falken aziens. I mean your car isnt as light as his but its still lighter than a gsr dc2. Trust me, you will love the high rev and the vtec. The b20 would basically be like your ls motor right now in that car. I dont really see b20's fast unless its in very light cars (eg's). Even though its in EG's they still cant beat my stock gsr 3rd gear+ unless they are fairly modded.

yeah im takin those turns on the street, anyone from portland oregon area knows bald peak... its alot of 10-40 mph corners, thats my style. all backroads, no smooth track or anything... just random backroad areas, so yeah im thinkin the gsr with the b16 tranny... why the b16 tranny though?? closer gears?? and is it reliable to mash on alot??

B18C1 or B20Z-VTEC. The B16A is kind of anemic in the heavy DB chassis. It's fast in the top end, but the low end sucks. Eaton style supercharges require the relocation of the brake master cylinder. No room for it in the DA/DB chassis. I'm sure you could figure out a way to shoe horn in a Vortech or Powerdyne type supercharger in there, but still will be expensive and time consuming.

b16 tranny has shorter gear ratios so quicker acceleration for your needs. A gsr or LS tranny would be fine for boost and yes Its always reliable as long as you don't drive dumb. (miss shift a lot, Dumb launches, etc...) My bro broke his b16 tranny launching too hard with M/T Slicks on his 400whp ls turbo DB1.

thanks man, yeah i'll go with the b18c1 and the b16 tranny, thanks for al the help. but i have one more question. whats the difference between the b17 gsr and the b18c1 gsr?? i know the liter difference but not sure performance and power wise.. im pretty sure the b17 is from the 92's right? oh and thanks for the compliment. yeah i love that car, i always wanted to 2 door da and then i got that one for cheap and lowered it and put wheels and exhaust on it and now i'll never go back to a 2 door, i had one there fun but the 4 doors are way sicker in my opinion...

The B17 is just like a B16 with with slightly higher displacement and a MUCH better rod/stroke ratio. Its still not worth it in my opinion and hard to find since they only came in the 92 and 93 GSR.

see my sig.

BTW, the 90-91's are OBD0 while 92-93 are OBD1, so he'd have to upgrade that as well, if you can find a running B17.
