Looks like we easily got 20 based on this and some emails I recieved.
We MAY (note the word "may") still split the group with 944 cup because they are looking pretty small, they use a 13/13 rule, and it'll make life easier on Grumpy. But if this happens, they'll have to run our format.
Oh, format will be...
Practice (untimed), qualify, sprint race on each day.
This will be the default format from here on.

How come we have gone away with the morning qualifying..? Is it so people that don't have their cars setup in the morning, can tune... Basically, all fast qualifying times are in the morning, is someone is fast in the morning, it screws the guy that doesn't get fast till mid day.. I think its a good choice, it puts everyone on the same playing field.. For people like me who lock their driving suit in their truck and dno't make morning qualifying

Seriously - the reason (Scott please correct me if I am wrong) is that this is "the convention" by which everyone else qualifies.
i must say the standing start was definetly awesome, saw you guys at summit point, been watching scca races there for about 7 years or so, never saw one there before besides the motorcycle races.

Thanks...it's a hell of a lot of fun to actually participate in one. Sitting in your race car watching for that green flag...is amazing.

if we make our 20, why would we do the above??!!

It's a 1:50 lap track. We could probably still do standing starts with split groups, but that would be up to Grumpy.

first race i was watching cars in front of me cause i couldn't see the green flag....second day was much better and definately got a better sstart!!
So, NASA's inability to correctly organize (i.e. limit the #of entrants) could cost us our run group......

Don't be a butthead.
There was a long dissertation here about the politics and money involved with this stuff. But I deleted it after deciding that it probably wouldn't make much difference anyway.
I'll just say that the sole Honda Challenge run group is a true luxury. SCCA would be very unlikely to run a single group of 20 production cars on a 1:50 lap track. You'd likely see a split start with 30 to 40 cars in as many as 10 classes. I've seen split starts among 3 groups and 50 cars at Road Atlanta.
I am trying to work with our sanctioning body to create a nice give and take environment. This type of relationship tends to work pretty good I think, and often pays off in the future when you ask a favor right back.
But since this apparently pisses some of you guys off, I'll call Grumpy tonight and DEMAND our single run group. It is within my rights to do so since we have our agreed upon 20 entries.

Well, the solution to that is to get enough cars that no other group fits (that would be ~40 cars at Summit Point, more at VIR).
I'm not trying to be argumentative, but juggling race groups isn't easy. And maximizing track time for all is usually the best way to placate the most people. I'm just glad I don't deal with this myself - our class admins duke it out with each other yearly for run groups in the MARRS events, and I get to sit back and read the emails at the end.
[edit]Looks like Catch22 posted at the same time. Basically said the same thing. And I think he has the right idea. If the 944 Cup guys have a 13/13 rule and ya'll can agree on a start procedure, I think that would be in your best interest to share the track. Running mixed groups sucks, but you already have 5 groups.

Butthead, NICE!!
There is no doubt that you and Karl are the ones to thank for all this. NASA and Scott/Karl are two totally different entities.
you hit the nail on the head.....> "Politics and Money"
nothing new there.
Yack -a.k.a butthead
