NA H22A Crx the right slick pressure? the right RPM which to launch?
Finally getting around to dialing the H22A Crx this week with slicks. First time with slicks any advice on how much tire pressure to start out with? Also a good RPM which to launch at?
JDM H22A Crx
2000 lbs even with driver 2180 lbs.
200 whp 168 trq
OEM integra hybrid axles
7-7500 RPM redline
22x8x15 MT ET slicks on 15x6 mesh's
9-10 psi on slicks?
5k rpm launch?
Obviously my goal is not to break the axles and come off bonzai

8-9lbs at 7400-7500rpm. You would rather spin out the hole, bogging is what breaks axles. Play around with tire pressure maybe drop it to 7 lbs. I use to launch at 8000 on my 210 whp stock block on 24's. I launch at 7600 right now. You should never launch below 7000 on slicks.
6.5- 7.5 psi . Launched at 7300. 8 k redline
car weighs roughly 2150 with a stock motor. made 220 .
Launch higher like what was said.
Start higher with psi on slicks. Start to drop psi with each pass. As you lower the tire pressure the 60ft should come down. However you dont want to put it so low as you lose mph in the traps.
Lower it slowly to where you start to see the 60ft consistant with the higher trap speed

Above info is all good...
Rev-limiter is your friend when launching! Dont be afraid to come out high... worse you will do is spin. I launched my old b-series setup at 9500rpm all day long w/ ~8psi in the tires. Consistent 1.6 60's!

you need to raise that redline of 7000-7500! you should be shifting at about 8000 thats where you will get the most out of it. every H setup i've done (stock) runs the best shifting at 8000 any more and it feels like revving but going nowhere..
As Sixty and 2fastgsr said your launch RPM needs to be much higher than 5k.
as stated we launched Sixty's car at 8000 on 13x8x24.5..... you should prob try to launch at 7500 on the first pass at about 7.5 -8psi in the slicks.
Check the slicks often as tire pressures can change from many variables (moving the car in the lanes) heat (sun, etc) can raise tire pressures. check and adjust tire pressures up to right before you are about to run. if you have a freind there have them check and adjust up to the last possible moment before you run.
believe me tire pressures can change from the car just moving a few feet, or even sitting in one place if its in direct sunlight.
if it spins then lower the pressure .5 or so. don't go too flat on the slicks. on that size slick i wouldnt go below 7 lbs. 8 psi is prob a good starting point. if it bogs then launch it a little higher and leave it at 8 psi.
you should be fine on stock axles. (unless they are really beat on)
with an H22 crx you should take some spares.. i've broken my fair share.. until i upgraded.. actually i have 2 sets for sale if you are interested. pretty cheap.. pm me if you are interested. (also have an M2A4 with welded diff) anyway good luck at the track..
mid to low 12's in that car for sure!!!
post up after you run!

Thanks for the info much appreciated! Forgot to mention H trans M2B4 (JDM LSD)
Peak Power 6900 rpm, we have dynoed a few jdm H22's and a Euro R all peak power was at 6900. Shift lights set at 6900 I probably hit 7500 at most. No redline which is dangerous IMO, I do need a 2 step. P28 crome.
As far as the axles seem to be in good shape no signs of weakness... have over dozen passes street tires and a few years of daily on them. Raxles pass. side axle OEM integra on driver side.
I'll post up the results was planin to go to the track tom. and fri. But it's raining today so duno. I'd be happy to get into the low 13's off the bat first outing with slicks. I know the car has 12's in it but as we all know comes down to driver.
The car has ran consistant 104-105 mph traps with hankook all seasonals
Here is a video of it a couple years ago I believe on hankooks. Believe it or not I have yet to hit 13's in it. 14.01 has been the best and that was when it was stock with 2" exhaust and less power. Always had to feather it off the line or the hankooks would slip. I figured out the problem I had and have since not took it to the track. My Vtec wire would come loose (poly mounts) so sometimes I would have vtec in a gear and the next gear wouldnt

I launch my car at 7 k and the slicks are set at 6.5psi tried a few different combos and this is what spun the least noone is gonna be able to pin point your best combo get out there and figure out what your car likes the best.....start around 7500 launch and 8psi in the tires and go from there good luck with it

Yeah I have learned I shouldn't go into the field of a professional driver
Overcast, 65* out. Track wasn't really warm it seemed and not up to par? It has been raining the past few days and it just cleared up still overcast yesterday.
It didn't seem any of the Honda's were running decent times. I may of been the only NA honda runnin low 14s.
I had over a dozen passes. Played around with tire pressure with a very old gauge and had it around 7.5-8 . Shifted around 6500-7k rpm axles held fine. Best 60 was 2.0
14.0-14.2 . It seemed to bog down tiny bit into 2nd. First time out with slicks so I had to try and not let my self feather it through first gear.

Slicks felt like they got warm. My guess is I need to stay in the burnout more. E braked, 1st gear 2nd gear for about a second and pulled out. I also hot laped it a few of the runs.
Half of my runs didn't record because the tracks sensor couldn't pick up my Acura Mesh wheels and 22x8x15's. 2n'd light would not trigger and would red light me this happened 3 times in a row it left me un happy so I just threw on the street tires trapped 100 mph 14.2 and called it a day . Some guy who worked at the track told me to put more air in the slicks and it would trigger the sensor
I wasn't happy obviously. So i did a compression test. Cyl 1,3,4 is 205-210 and Cyl 2 is 225. Hmm. Spark plugs look similar across the board. Summer before last I believe it was August I ran a 14.0 with stock header, 2" exhaust of the pass. side. and short ram intake, Spoon wanabe P13 and 15 whp and 10 ft lbs torque less. On street tires same tires. Now 14.2 100 mph on streets has me scratching my head.
Anyone have any ideas? Should I be worried about Cyl 2 (225)? I will load the one decent vid 2nite

you are bogging in second because you are shifting way too early... 6.5 and 7k is too early for an H22.. it will still build power and run better (and a lot faster) shifting at 8000.. i've had a LOT of H22 motors and i'm telling you 8000 is the point to shift..
numerous passes running deep in the 12's in pretty much every chassis.. EG hatch, 92 4 door (full interior) 12.8 completely stock except for chipped p28 and exhaust and hotshot header, H2B crx (12.3) 7.6 in the 1/8th..
is it bogging off the line or spinning? and yes you have to mash the pedal on slicks. no more feathering!!
the car has a lot of potential you just need some practice driving.. .
Good luck and run it as much as you can!!!

yep spin it, especially with those H22 gears....
that 60 is poor.
2nd gear burnout?
How old are the slicks?
Get a new air gauge, not some cheap *** autozone gauge. Moroso has a decent one for about $30 through summit. You may have 12lbs in those slicks and the gauge you have says 7lbs. Those 15" slicks aren't going to ahve much sidewall so I don't think you can go lower than maybe 7.5lbs.

I first like to appreciate all the comments and advice guys!
Yeah it was the first time with slicks. By the end of the night seemed to get somewhat the drift of them. Yes at first tried to feather up top in first a tiny bit. Yes 2nd felt like it would bog tiny bit. Probably me feathering. I do agree the lack of traction may of been fooling me on when to shift. Shifted just about every time 7500. I will try mashing on it and forget about it. I had planned to go to the track tom. again but I want to make sure my tune and engine are up to par. If not tom. next Wed. I ran the last 2 runs with my street tires 14.2 @ 100. Similar times with slicks and street tires and 100 mph and under traps has me puzzled on possible health of engine. I am going to compare my jdm h22 dc compression #'s to the crx's.
The videos were poor quality not worth posting... camera man errors
Slicks are brand new just took tags off MT ET's
2nd gear burnout rolled off ebrake
Already ahead of it ordered a new gauge this morning 0-15.
Correct the gauge I used is probably older then I am. Yes drained down to 8-9 psi first time came back was at 11, lowered it.
AGX shocks are all on highest setting 4
rear tires are at 34 psi
I'll keep the thread posted till I get into low 13's or high 12's. I will possibly play 2 tracks against each other one track tends to read cars lil lower. Bremerton vs Pacific.
Here are a 2 pix

8K seems too high to be shifting at 6900-7100 seems to be peak #'s according to dyno below of the car.
Only thing I have changed since the tune below is flow stack and filter I wouldn't think this would alter a tuned chip severly? Dyno tune below was with a 3" ebay filter

don't be so focused on where the peak power is be more concerned where the rpm lands in the next gear. I dropped 3 tenths reving out 1st to 8200 from 7600 with the H trans in my teg.
Everything else sounds goood John

very true... don't focus on peak power. i've had plenty of H's and they love the 8000... you want to be in your peak on every shift, and shifting too early is going to drop you down WAYYYY too low. (especially on slick)
on slicks make sure to keep adjusting the tire pressure. all the way up to the line have someone check it for you and adjust. believe me just moving the car a few feet can raise the tire pressure. also even the car just sitting the tire pressure can raise. so have someone checking it all the way up until the last minute before you pull up to line up for the burnout box.. as far as whoever is adjusting it is allowed to go to maintain the same tire pressure...
i'm constantly adjusting it to maintain the tire pressure i need.
good burnout so you see smoke (1st gear start off then go to 2nd gear burnout) !! and dump the clutch when launching. is it spinning or bogging off the line??
speed shift to every gear after 1st... don't worry about feathering or anything.. the slicks are made to smash on so dont be afraid of spinning in any other gear.. just shift as fast as you can.
almost postive that your bogging in 2nd gear is due to the early shift..
Rev to 8000... try it on your next trip out!!
keep us updated!!
we need to see this H rex hit 12's!! guaranteed it will!!! Good luck!
what did you launch at? try it at 7500 at least.. you have crome so you can set the 2 step once you find which RPM is the best... check your 60' every run and adjust until its at least in the 1.7's..

My guess is good as yours I think I need to get the slicks hotter, stay in the burnout longer. The (2) 2.0 60ft I believe I was told some smoke was starting. Colder weather Colder track temps, More Burnout time...
It's coming off the line pretty hard spinnin... I think my issue is what you guys think, slicks not hot enough, pre shifting into 2nd gear fooling me that 1st is over with due to spinage instead of mashing and riding it out. which id imagine is giving me a lil bog into 2nd because RPMS are down after spinage in 1st.
6800-7k was what I was launching at I'll try 7500 and drag out each gear to 8k rpm. I'll try to keep in the burnout 2nd gear longer till I see smoke.
I think the old gauge may of been misleading me, I'll wait till it gets here and most likely be out next Wed. to see if I can dial things in better. Might as well give it a valve adjustment this weekend as well.

good burnout so you see smoke (1st gear start off then go to 2nd gear burnout) !! and dump the clutch when launching<U></U>. is it spinning or bogging off the line?? </TD></TR></TABLE>
everything he said just be careful with letting off the clutch with slicks...all that grip and the axles might snap unless you have aftermarket axles

do you want to be fast or slow? IMO if your not gonna drop the clutch why even go run some half *** ET's?

I think 6800 to 7K is fine John and your slick pressure was too high and/or your slicks are not broken in yet. You need a good 2nd gear roast to season those new slicks in

now that i see it was spinning off the line you are prob good launching at 6800 to 7k as Skunked said lower the tire pressure.. and get those new slicks broken in!!
And Don't be afraid to launch it hard. no point in taking it out if you arent going to use its full potential. we run stock axles on our H2b setup launching on 24.5's dumping clutch and they hold up..
and our b series is launching at 8500 on 24.5x9.5x13's on stock axles!

As was already said, dont be too concerned with where peak power is .
You need to carry rpms further, simply for wheel speed and rpm drop into next gear.
I also picked up 2 tenths just by changing shifting at 7800 to 8100 on my stock h22. . .
From my experience the MTs dont have to be heated up as much as the MHs do. So i wouldnt lay too much into them, just make sure you have both wheels spinning ( stock lsds love to give up on one side sometimes) .
We've always had great 60fts on a first pass on MTs so I'm not too sure about breaking them in
I think the 15 inch wheel may be affecting the wheel speed in each gear though

Yeah id imagine it would be a lil different with a 15" wheel then a 13"... just hope it's not worlds apart far as reaching my goal or stopping my goal. Not a slick expert.
It's shootin out pretty good so it should be interesting when I get the slicks hotter. The gauge I had could of been off a couple psi which would make that day useless other then gainin knowledge on slicks.

I've seen them off 5+ psi John. You should see some sidewall wrinkle at 7-8psi.
15's just don't give you as much sidewall on a 22" diameter as a 13" would. I've seen 1.7's from the slicks your running so that's the least of your worries IMO.
Are you using some sort of rpm control for the launch?

Yeah did see some wrinkle 7-8 psi. No RPM control just my foot at 6800-7k. Shift light set at 6900 off stock tach. The engine is pretty insync so holdin at 6800-7k wasn't hard. See the shift light then at 7400-7600 max shift.
2 closest races was 1 newer vette and 1 late 90's camaro v8. Vette was coming hard up top and pulled probably a car on me. Camaro lost by half a car.

Here is one video that was salvagable of my 2nd run of the night I think I may of had too much pressure then and before next run I let air out. Which may explain the bog off the line. Also came off I believe at 5-6k rpm was still messing with RPM to launch
On that run I believe I was crossing the finish line at 5-6k rpm. Once I let air out I believe I was crossing at 7+k rpm
Don't pay attention to after the run my father forgot to shut off the camera lol
