is it worth buyin a name brand air intake??
im about to buy an air intake for my 4 door db1 and i was wondering if its worth spending the extra money on a name brand one or am i better off buyin a cheap no name brand one. and also, when i do should i get that little filter i believe its called an air breather filter?? instead of hookin it up to the air intake?? whats better..
leave it hooked up. its there for reason. dont be dumb and put a breather on it thats stupid. intakes really dont matter that much until you get into the crazy ones like weapon R charge tube design. Alot of people seem to like the Skunk2 ones though. Just do a little research and you'll find the one you like.
Don't forget that if you live in CA that no-name intake will cause you to fail smog. You need that CARB sticker on the AEM and others.
alright well thanks, so it wont make any power difference? i was wanting the Skunk2 one... but wasnt sure if i wanna spend the extra money for the name.. so i take it the little filter is stupid? theres no point or is it just money you dont need to spend?

Do you have inspection or emissions in oregon?
Just get a cheap intake.. nice k&n filter and call it a day..
If you want to put a breather on the valve cover you can..
Me personally i just put a vacuum cap on mine.

what the hell have you been smoking? When i think of crazy intakes, i think of power makers like the mugen or comptech intake, NOT weapon r
and since when the hell does skunk2 make an intake? news to me
To the OP: The tube bends, material, filters, and coating make a difference. Theres a lot of things that come into play such as heat soak. If you want something cheap and effective, just use your OEM intake arm with a velocity stack and aftermarket filter.

Does anyone know if there's a company that makes intakes that'll fit 90-93 integras where the intake arm is made of ABS plastic?
A good filter is what matter the most.. design of the tube is pretty much the same on most aftermarket intake, just the name brand slap on... unless you start buying something pricey like the ARC power chamber, comptech air box, or the mugen air box... even with high end brand name and the box looking intake that is say to be icebox or to keep air cool, i still think it doesn't perform any better then a generic short ram with a good filter.. I've tried most and that is just my .02 cent...
I've had quite a bit of experience with ebay vs. name brands and name brands all the way IMO. Ebay ones just look plain cheap in/out of the pipe and they generally don't fit right and don't come with everything. They also come with very cheap non-reusable filters. Spend the extra money for a good quality name brand product, it will come with everything you need, fit perfectly, and come with a lifetime, good quality filter. I prefer injen's personally for your less expensive name brand intakes. Comptech and arc and other higher name brands cost way to much for my blood! GL on whatever you decide.
my .02 on 9 yards of intakes...
don't get cai, use short ram for dd
you can use one breather, not 3...put breather(tiny air filter) on intake tubing nipple, but run a custom line from valve cover to intake manifold with pcv valve in line somewhere of your choice; if it's not a gsr or type-r
use no name or custom tubing mandrel bent and somewhere along the lines of equal diameter of throttle body, and make sure inside of tubing is somewhat polished for better airflow
filter is worth more than you think for performance-use k&n($65) because it has a velocity stack incorporated with pre-oiled so it flows smooth and great as far as air so ecu doesnt throw globs of gas into combustion chamber=smooth gas flow

alright so im guessing to get the piping and a k&n filter to put on it... and also, do i want short ram or cold air?? whats the difference of the 2? i know the placement is different but whats the performance difference??

zero performance difference. greater chance of risk!

Well i dont know why but My aem intake stays cooler than my ebay intake. After driving i touched both and i cant touch the ebay 1 or it'll burn me and the aem 1 i can just hold it. Diff metals? I'm not sure but if you live in california I'd suggest you buy a carb legal intake or you'll get gayed sooner or later.

Basic info you might want to read to better understand intakes..

so what i read on that link is that the cold air brings a little more power cuase its not in the engine bay... and also said that might as well go with the ebay special... so as long as im not stupid and runnin through puddles i should be ultimately please with the cold air intake, and also for the guy who posted "i didnt know skunk2 made intakes" they did awhile back, my buddy in washington said if i found him a short ram he'd trade me. i wanted it cause i never seen a skunk2 intake before. i was just as suprized as you but yeah thanks for all the help!!

Basically yes, remember, the colder the air the better... the point where CAI brings in colder air (more power) as to which it would register a significant increase over other intakes on a dyno and become "worth" the price is debatable. I would go looking for some dyno's on intake comparisons.
As for me I run a "hybrid", as mentioned in the article. Comptech Icebox.

exactly! pipe is just pipe - the filter element is what really matters here.
and don't cheap out and buy an eBay CAI.
you want... correction: NEED... the bypass valve.
intake: chump change
engine: thousands of dollars
not drowning your motor: priceless

CAI's don't make more power over short-rams because of warm air in your engine bay. The ambient temp inside your engine bay above 30mph is pretty much the same temp as outside. CAI's make more power than short rams because of flow velocity.
CAI's will make more power over short rams, and there have been dyno's to prove it. Hell, the local dyno tuner to me said he made 7whp over a short ram just by varying intake length.

Wrong.
