02 Accord LX Coupe, auto trans. Thing started a whining sound when moving backwards. Kinda high pitch, sounds like brakes. Only moving backwards. Sound don't change when I put in in neutral and coast. Is this a weird wear indicator?

 

Check the faq on here. I'm sure there is something in there about how the reverse gear is a different type of gear as opposed to the others. Which is why it makes kind of a whining noise in reverse.

 

But it hasn't always made the noise, just started a week ago or so. And if I get moving backward in reverse, then put it into neutral and coast, it still makes the same sound. No change in volume or pitch.
