Default b18a1 tranny vs. b16a1 tranny

i just came back from the shop and im getting a b16a2 motor put in. I told him i wanted lsd but the only tranny available was a b18a1 lsd that he had around and said was good condition. But are these tranny's any better or worse to have with a b16 engine? whats the difference?

thanks

It depends on what your trying to do with your setup.

LS tranny will save you gas.. due to low cruising speeds (lower rpm's)

LS is better for boost..

B16 is better for all motor car/street/strip..

Here is gearing info:

Dude, boost with b16 tranny would be faster. But would have the worst gas mileage. It's been proven time and time again that shorter gear ratio = faster acceleration whether it's n/a or f/i.

But ideally, I'd look for a gsr tranny.

gas milage would be about the same(from experience).

hondas are more proned to getting bad gas milage when you opening the throttle under loads(say flooring it in 5th at 2k)

Yes, yes.. I know i know..

I've drove boost'd gsr's/ls's with b16 tranny's.. all i get to do is feather the throttle and blow the tires off

I would use GSR also.

But i dunno what the original posters plans are or setup.

you know whats funny too, is that he asked me if i was a daily driver on the highway or street driver. i answered street then he recommended this tranny that he has and said is great and would put his reputation on it. But i never clued in that he was trying to see what was best for me....and still chose the wrong one (cause thats the only cable LSD tranny he had). So basically when i get my stock car with this LS tranny with lsd, my take offs are gonna be a joke?? lol great i was planning on running all motor but now it looks like its turbo time lol

after doing some research on Hondatech, iv made my final decision. I called him back and said that i didnt want an LS becuase i really want it to be short geared. he agreed with me and tld me that he was gona call me back and tell me that anyway (nice guy-splitfire performance toronto). So he said that he can get me a NON lsd 2nd gen cable tranny. You heard me a 2nd gen cable? i didnt even know those existed haha but he said they are even better and stronger than the first gen and its the S1 tranny too!! yay

And of course he talked me into getting a new clutch now that the price is a bit lower for this tranny. i got a street comp stage 3 clutch and flywheel. wow

i was worried about launching with my ls, now i gotta worry about too much torque off the line haha

thanks for the help guys i am going tonight and will post pics of all the new stuff!

good luck on the tranny and clutch combo, i'd definently go for b16 tranny if i was looking for the short gear ratios for racing
