08 Honda Accord Coupe EX-L V4 Tranny Issues
Hello everyone,
Im about 2 months in with my automatic ex-l coupe and i have this really weird transmission issue when i drive my car in the morning, or when it hasnt been driven for about 6-8 hours.
When i accelerate past 3,500 rpm and the car shifts into the next gear, the car jolts hard into the next gear and sometimes even envokes the /!\ light. It reminds me of someone whos a shitty manual driver and skids the wheels when going from 1st gear to second.
The weird thing about this tho, is that as the car gets warmer the jolt is not as strong and eventually goes away completely after about 30 min of driving. Like for example, if i wake up in the morning, drive a couple of miles to the freeway, ill get the jolts, then driving on the freeway for about 30 min the jolts subside, and then when i get off the freeway and back onto surface streets the car shifts normally from 1st - 2nd.
Any ideas? I was hoping to get some feedback before i bring it into Honda....
Thanks,
Michael

only "issue" ive noticed with my tranny (V6) is in the morning and/or cold starts... if i accelerate quickly after shifting fron Reverse to D4 the tranny will give out a pronounced "click" right when i accelerate away, regardless if i come to a complete stop when backing out or not...
if im backing out in Reverse, come to a complete stop, put into D4 and wait a second for the RPM's to drop slightly (maybe 300-400 RPM's) after changing from Reverse to D4, then accelerate away, there is no click... so this is my process every time...
but no issues shifting, but i havent had long, about 3 months and 5,500 mi

Sounds normal. Trans fluid is like oil, thick when cold and more like water when warmed. The tranny may shift delayed or rough until the fluid is warmed up. This is normal and cannot be fixed. If you notice a problem after warm then there may be an issue. If you feel there is an issue take to a dealer since you have a warranty
i would take it in even if they dont fix it... this way if any issues arise after warranty is over its in honda records of that issue and they prob will fix it after warranty is over.(just a little safety measure).. im sure it has to be okay with the honda regional service manager/rep.... GL

i figured it was normal, it was just more pronounced then every other AT car i've driven (my first AT car, but my parents have owned various Acura's, an Audi A4 and currently an MB E350)...
like i said, i just take my time in the morning or the first shifts after being parked for a while and it's fine.

You have a warranty obviously? Take it to a good dealer, maybe even two to get it checked out. transmissions are not cheap, and I had mine replaced at 50,000 miles. thank God I had extended warranty (03 V6). I am not a car mechanic, but a motorcycle mechanic - point is, if something doesn't seem right, it probably isn't. get it checked out. Even when really cold it shouldn't JOLT that hard. maybe slight difference btwn cold and hot but not that much.
It's really hard to guage over the net. but even new cars do have a slight jolt from a cold start up (except for this Lexus LS470 I drove). Shouldn't be that pronounced, though. Like others have suggested, take it in. Can't hurt for a tech to diagnose it.
