......welders opinion, turbo manifold welds......
Ok, so i jsut bought a new turbo manifold, its cheap. i have been looking at the welds, they look real weak, im pretty sure they will crack. Has any body ever re-welded a brand new turbo manifold to make the welds stronger? much less will it make it any stronger? also if that doesnt work any body got any suggestions on a new one for a good price? budget build
That looks like an SSAC manifold and I will assure you that it will crack unless it is properly braced and extra support is added to hold the weight of the turbo itself.
Yep thats some super thin metal, and will crack for sure. For everyone 1 person those ebay mani's last for, there are ten that fail. You can try a tripod style support, but as mike said, it doesn't change the fact that its thin, crappy metal.

I bought a cracked SSAC or OBX, one of the two, a few months ago for a ZC project. Grinded all the welds down until they were pretty much non existant and re welded it with a mig. Added 4 supports from the turbo flange to the head flange. Never had a single problem for over 6 months, couldnt tell you how it ended up after that, car was stollen...
I welded three diferrent supports on the manifold same manny as the one in the pic's! the piping exploded there was a 1/4 inch crack when I hit 18 psi I knew I should have never tried it lol but o well it was only 40 dollars from a friend and didn't hurt my turbo at all.

I usually dont post on this stuff but when the hell are people going to learn to stop buying this crap. It wastes so much of peoples time! Taking it off and fixing does not fix the problem...buy quality first. Those manifolds are crap

I don't understand why these companies don't just weld the **** properly. It looks like they go over the whole thing with a pulse, just to get the "stacked dime" look.
I've had a few of these come in cracked at my old job.

because to do the job right would cost more money. meaning less profit
this is just ebay crap. no matter how many extra welds and extra support, at the end it will only be crap. i wouldn't drive the car a long distance with this manifold...
