Axles are to Long?
My mechanic said that the axles on my car are to long. I have a 90 civic hatch with a poor mans ITR. It is sitting pretty low right now and I have Omni Power coilovers can I just raise the ride height to fix the problem?

Yeah I've never had a problem with them. Don't know how they could be to long.

He said that he thought they were too long because of a distinct vibration that would go away when the car raised up after hitting a bump. I felt the vibration when we were towing the car over to the shop because of other problems. I thought it could be the tires, because I have the old Falken Azenas. He didn't really give a definitive answer, but then again I didn't really ask. Unfortunetly I do not know what axles are in there I assumed that the guy I bought the car from had selected the right ones for that swap into that car. Also there is some axle grease that has been spinning up on the fire wall from the passenger side if that means anything. I am going to try raising the ride height after I get it back hopefully that will straiten the axles a little more, but I really don't know what's up
So if anybody is wondering I raised the car about three inches and all the vibration went away. The axles were to long and the guy I bought the car from had it slammed out way past where it should have been.

Axles wouldn't be too long. They may have been overextened, and at an unfavorable angle which causes binding in the cv joints. Raising the car would technically shorten the axles as they retract back into their cups.

Yes and no. It's all relative. The axles will be at their shortest point when the 2 ends are perfectly parallel. When the wheel goes up or down from that frame of reference, the length will be increased somewhat as the inboard joint pulls out to accomodate for the greater length. Just look at a right triangle.
From his frame of reference, raising the car back up removed some of that angular misalignment and effectively decreased the overall length of his axles. If he had lifted his car, then yes they would be longer again.

did anyone ever check to make sure their dust rings were removed?

raxles with the dust seal here as well... tried a gabillion oem sized axles for nothing. Raxles solved the problem and marty was really nice and very helpful.
