Car just cut-off
I have 1992 acura integra and I was coming home from work and the car just shut-off in the middle of the street. I towed it to my home. The car has new wires, plugs distributor cap rotor. I was going to replace the radiator because it is leaking from the top. The car wasn't running hot or anything and no check engine light came on. The fluid was low in the radiator. It cranks but it just won't kick over and start. I checked all the vaccum hose and they look okay. I have a new fuel filter that I was going to install as well. The car has about 170,000 mile on it. It was running smooth no idling problems or anything. What should I check?
Most likely your ignition coil or fuel main relay. Try hitting the underside of the driver's side under dash panel as it cranks (no joke). If it starts your relay is on the fritz. $60 for a new one from Acura.
if it were his main relay it wouldnt had just shut off on him while driving. and besides 60 dollars for a main relay from acura is obsurd, you could get one from a salvage yard for 5 bills. anyway, id say its most likely your alternator thats causing your problem.
My main fuel relay died while I was driving. Car just sputtered and then died. I also have a 92 Integra. Problem with buying a used relay is that you may just end up having the same problem again (used part = questionable reliability). I figure if it lasts 175,000 miles, $60 is a small price to pay. I'm still thinking it is most likely his ignition coil. The alternator has nothing to do with the car not being able to start. If it cranks, it has enough power to start the car. If you have a battery with a good charge, you could drive without your alternator belt for 20 minutes or so. I have also done this when my alternator belt snapped at the track. Drove all the way home on battery voltage (optima). He would have also gotten a "battery" light if the alternator wasn't putting out enough voltage/current.
Put a volt meter on your battery and see what kind of charge your battery has. Should be about 12V. If the car is cranking but not starting, it has nothing to do with the alternator.

I have a chilton manual but it doesn't give me a picture of where the fuel main relay is. Could you tell where it is located on the car. I appreciate all your help. Thanks
nothing showed up on the link when I click on it but this error

to check if its ur alternator....try to jump start ur car and once it starts...pull off the positive side of your battery..it the car dies then its ur alternator.....if it doesnt then its something else
Same thing happened to me a few years back, I reached a stop light and the car just turned off. It ended up being the internal coil (inside the dizzy) it's about $80 at autozone. Eazy fix (if it's that).

if u want to check if its ur coil just check if you have spark...even with a bad rotor or cap the car wouldnt die on you while its running...but with a bad coil or alternator it would...and it could also be timing...

I have changed the main fuel relay and ignition coil and the car still won't start. a My alternator and starter are fine. What would be the symptoms if it was the fuel pump. When I bought the the timing belt and water pump was changed.
check for fuel spark and timing...check your fuses...listen if ur fuel pump is still working...again double check your timing..turn your crank counter clockwise until your white mark is aligned with the marking on the timing belt cover...then check if your piston one is all the way up....that would indicate that your timing is still at tdc...my car had the same problem..couldnt start it..redid timing hella times..and then found out that my crank pulley key was shaddered to shyts..even though the tdc mark was lined with the timing cover...my pistons were off because the crank pulley was spinning freely and not turning the crank...so that could be a problem...which indicated that my pulley was not tight enough... replaced everything and tightened everythng up can car started right up...so again check if you have spark and fuel and check timing...
I have replaced the ignition coil, igniter, Main Fuel Relay, Fuel Pump, Fuel Filter. I took a spark plug off of the plug to see if any spark was coming from the plug and I am not getting any spark at all. The timing belt and timing are okay. Could it be the ECM. The rotor is turning on the distributor

I bet this man has the answer.
Happened to me twice on my old motor, once 3 hrs. from home.
I just took a step up and bought a new (reman) distributor, plus my bearings were going out anyways...

interested to see turnout cause this happened to me at honda today except my main relay makes a clicking sound and wont start but i have spark... the other day though i pulled out my ecu once i got home (cause its got my precious tune on it and my car would barely idle with a stock one) then my car wouldnt start... low and behold my jumper came unplugged and i wasted a whole day of tryin to figure out wtf happened
If I am not geting any spark when I crank the car and remove a spark plug wire and see if I get any spark and I am not getting any spark. I checked to see if the voltage was ok on the map sensor and throttle sensor and it was getting voltage. Could it be the ecu. I tried to check for trouble codes but when I jump it the light just stayed lit. Could it be the main board.
are u sure ur checking for spark the correct way? did u pull out a spark plug along with the spark wire or just the wire? check ur ECU fuse...try testing a different ECU...or is ur fuel pump working?if your not getting spark then most likely its ur distributor....could be bad spark plugs but theyll work even when theyre worn out....
