Default 93 EG Civic Hatch LS Swap

Alright, Im planning on doing an LS swap into my 93 civic dx hatch and I have done the research on here and found what I could so here are the questions to what I could not find. If it is already posted on here, feel free to post the link to the info. Ok, I have been quoted at approximately $2500 for the entire swap. This includes a JDM OBD2 B18B with no more than 30,000 Miles on it with all accessories and a USDM LS Transmission with slightly more miles. The reason for the switch in trannies is because my number one concern is fuel economy. I currently get 40 MPG on 87 octane and am not willing to give much of that up. Most of my commute is on a highway so I figured the ratios of the LS would be best and I was tole the JDM tranny has shorter gears than the USDM, so there is the reason for that. Ok, back to the $2500, that is for motor, accessories, tranny, ecu, axles, mounts, etc... However, I am picking this up from a local shop so there is no shipping and I feel this price might be high. What do yall think?

Next, Im interested in the top speed capabilities of the USDM LS tranny. Will this tranny give me a higher top speed that a GSR/Si/Type R tranny? I would think so but am i actually right?

Next, what type of performance can I expect as far as quarter mile, 0-60, fuel economy, top speed, etc... I found so many diferent numbers on here and 99% have to be BS. If you answer this part please be able to back it up some way, some how.

Next, what exhaust combo will I need? I want to do the Apexi WS2 because of the quiet yet deep note for the daily driver, but a regular 93 hatch set up wouldnt bolt to the B18B would it? Also, what would be a good highflow cat or test pipe for this set up?

Next, what is the weight diference between an EG hatch and an EG coupe? Ive found weights for the hatches and four doors but I haven't found too much reliable info for the coupe weights, so what is the real diference? How much would this affect performance in a real world situation in the above mentioned activities? Quarter, 0-60, top speed, MPG? I know the hatch is lighter, but I think they are a bit on the ugly side for a daily driver that I plan to have for awhile. Sorry to whoever that may offend, just my opinion.

Any way, thanks alot for the help and any other input will be appreciated.

-top speed yes, but it will also hurt your straight line acceleration. My jdm ITR trans has awesome acceleration, but maxes out at 150-160 i would assume. (never taken it that far) but as far as the LS trans top speed... i highly doubt you'll ever find the top of fifth with a stock LS swap.

-yes, get a cat back exhaust for a hatch and get either your local exhaust shop to make a test pipe, or if you're unsure about what you'll need, http://passwordjdm.com/Passwor....aspx theres an adjustable test pipe that will fit almost any 2.5 inch exhaust setup, (theres also a resonated one).

-probably mid to low 15 second quarters. honestly its different for every car and driver.

-as far as weights go, i think this is what you are looking for (it was in the FAQ...) https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=150315 honestly, weight is a big issue for some, but a couple hundred pounds isnt going to hurt you THAT much in the quarter mile. Especially if its your DD, you wont really notice much of a difference.

hope that helps... good luck with the swap

Thanks for the info man, I appreciate it. By the way, I had a GSR and the highest I ever had it was 147. It also had Crower cams, a Skunk2 Intake Manifold, I, H, E, Head Work, etc... I dont think it was quite at red line, but it was damn close. Any body else have some info, especially about the price.

I just did this swap. Not hard, really. However, $2500 is WAY too high. You could have a B16 swap SHIPPED for that price. I paid $1150 from a local shop and I paid on the higher end.

As for gas mileage, I get 36-40mpg average (mostly highway) since the swap. It wasn't a drastic difference in mileage, honestly. The car is much, much quicker (from the stock 70hp).

As for exhaust, I ordered from http://www.summitracing.com and went with Magnaflow muffler and Carsound (magnaflow again) high flow cat. Both were just under $70 each.

To reiterate my point, please shop around for the swap or order a B16 from one of the many sponsors. It will be the same $2500.

Thanks man, I thought it seemed a bit high. Anyone know of a place I can get a swap for a decent price? Ive checked password and hmo, but they aren't any better. Im located in MD/PA or if I can get it shipped from somewhere Id appreciate the help.

Also, is an eg hatch going to be that much faster than an eg coupe with the same swap????

I have an LS swap in my 94 coupe and have the Del Sol VTEC tranny (b16a3) and I can redline fifth easily. I haven't had it toped out but i think its right around 125 at the max.

This really is JUST a question, no agression at all...

You really think you can get up to those speeds with an ITR tranny? My S4C LSD (CTR) car i think maxed out before 130-135, 5th gear, above redline.
What are the real max speeds for these trannys; say at 8000 rpm termination point????
Anyone?

Its cool. I want those answers as weel. Like I said, The highest I ever had my GSR was 147 and if I remember correctly it was close to red line. damn close. An ITR has shorter gears. I just cannot see an ITR trans getting above that. Anybody? What is an LS trans top speed?

Check my write-up in my signature,

Also, my 92 Civic CX hatch with a B18B1 and LS transmission is averaging about 28-29mpg with mixed driving and being beaten on every chance I get. Its about 3000RPM at 65/70mph.

My S4C (essentially the second generation of the YS1 tranny) is the shortest geared tranny of all, so the 130 makes sense, even at almost 9000 rpm. Also my car hit 60 in a touch over 6 seconds.

I know of a GSR swap local to you for 2800 obo, so I would say that your ls is overpriced.
