Whats the widest tire you can use on a 15x6.5 rim with 38mm offset?

They will be going on a 95 GSR with Tein coilovers.

I don't want them to rub anywhere but I'd like the widest tire possible. I would also like to have a tire that offers grip in the rain because they will see double duty between daily driving and light track events. Price isn't that much of a concern as long they are good.

 

I used 205/50/15 on my 15x6.5" wheel, but my offset is +40mm. No issues with rubbing whatsoever. I don't have a drastic drop, just where the tire meets the fender.

 

i have a 205/50 all the way around w/ a +35mm and i had rubbing issues in the rear.. i had to roll them. i say unless your autoxing then i see no reason to not get a 195/50.. which will give you the choice to go lower if you wanted.

 

Get 195/55-15 or 205/50-15. DON'T get 195/50-15, which is too small for your car.

Then the problem isn't the tire size; it's something else about your car (either it's lowered too much, or the offset is wrong). Don't use the wrong tire size to try to compensate for another problem.

for the correct tire size this is what you need, however i have 225/50r15 radials on 6.5" rims for track duty if thats what ur looking for

I've been looking into a few tires in the sizes you guys recommended and have narrowed it down to the General Exclaim UHPs or Yokohama S.Drives because I need wet traction and decent tread life.

However, I hear that the Exclaim UHP's have a really soft sidewall that could lead to easily damaged wheels since the roads are really rough and littered with potholes where I'm from.

Does anyone have any experience with either one or both of these tires? How do you like them?

Those aren't bad choices, although I'd also consider the Kumho SPT. Here are prices in the category you're looking at, i.e. summer tires with very good dry traction, excellent traction in rain, and very good treadlife (and I'll include both the ones you mention as well as the SPT and ZRi). Prices are at the Tire Rack except where indicated.
