emissions question. . .
i have a 93 si with a b16 swap in it. . . bought the car with the motor already in there, and im suppose to go in for my emissions test. The car is completely stock, but i do not have papers or anything like that regarding the swap. . i have never had a obd1 car for smog, all my others were obd2 and i they never had to go through a visual inspection. . will these guys question the swap? so i need paper work regarding it? thanks
I've been through many testes in IL, never once have they opened the hood.
There is no visual inspection, only a quick tailpipe check and idle test.
If you have a P30 on your B16 and a cat in place you'll pass no problem.

it says b16a on the block, im assuming its a jdm motor as far as the ecu, i have no idea wat kind of ecu its running. . if they just do the tail pipe check i should be ok? wat is the idle test?
thanks agen for quick responses, i have been stressing out about this, almost bought a dseries motor to swap in just for the smog test. . .

where are you in IL? if your in the chicago burbs like I am you'll have to do a rev up to 2k RPM with the sniffer in the tail pipe, then a spell at idle with the sniffer.
If you're tuned well you should pass, if it's a chipped P28 (untuned) like most people run then you're going to have problems.
No need for the d-series engine, just get the car running right and you'll be fine.
