Transmission Problems (lots of noise)
The tranny in my 90 Si has been acting weird ever since I bought the car a little over a year ago. The clutch sucks, and engages way too quickly, and the input shaft bearing is done (noise go's away when clutch is in). On June 6th the tranny is coming out and all new seals, syncro's, and bearings are going in, but I’m not sure if this will solve all my transmission problems. When in first gear, at any speed, accelerating, decelerating, the tranny makes a very odd sound. I don’t even know how to enplane it. it’s almost like a very quick "clack clack clack" that you would here from a diesel motor, the faster you go in first, the faster the noise gets, the same noise is there in second gear, but not nearly as loud, 3rd, 4th, and 5th are all fine. Is first gear just worn out? Or is it a bearing? Thanks for any help. I’m sick of this shitty tranny and just want it fixed right the first time I pull it out.

Input shaft bearing is done, pop the case off and its on the top of the gear set. Take it off and spin it, should be quiet and not real sloppy .

I have had experience with this butthole, no need for a bump. Pull the outside case off and check your input shaft bearing.
