ummm...u should find out what they mean by "head work". I think the term can differ depending on where u take it. dont just take it somewhere and say "I want head work".

They are even cheaper than DPR.....from what I have heard, they are one of the best shops for headwork. No personal experience with them, but some people say that it is worth the price

Tom @ Portflow is

Really nice guy also, which is something I have come to appreciate in this "import scene."

Let me wander around and even let me learn to port on one of the heads that was there. I had a choice between the head marked "Samaroo" and the head marked "Sakai". I chose the one marked "Sakai." I messed up a bit in the beginning, but I did a pretty nice job on cylinder #3.

My setup doesn`t really apply to anybody in this forum. It`s a whacko 2.0l jrsc`d type number . You probably want to ask somebody that`s NA running itr motor.

If I were you I'd rather leave the head uninstalled until you can afford the headwork.

Maybe it's just me, but I hate doing things more times than I have to.

and you would expect the same from a spoon header?
Expect 1hp = $100 but its porportional. The more hp you want the more its going to cost you. Too the point where 1hp =$3-400. This is not a cheap sport.

That's nuts. It must be the "we're working in a ITR so triple the price" markup.

A buddy of mine just got the head on his Galant VR4 done for $350 at a local shop. They port matched all the ports, milled the head to 9.5:1 and did a four angle valve job. I can see a better job being more than that but $900 seems nuts.

I'd talk to some local machine shops and see what they can do.

I wouldn`t let "some local machine shop" touch my Honda head.

Why not?

There's several machine shops in the area here who've worked on many of the fastest cars in the state both import and domestic. If they know what they're doing and are supported by the local racer community you'll most likely get quality work done for a lot less money, and you'll help your local economy too.

It's not as if there's only one or two places in the entire country that know how to port and polish a head.

Exactly. You are in Colorado and he`s in NC. Who knows what his "local machine shop" is capable of. That`s why it`s better to go w/ somebody w/ a good history and reputation IMO. I`ll pay a few extra bucks to get my chit done right.

You'll see he's about the same price as well.

It's his money, I just hate to see people waste it.

I think a good thing to do would be to talk to some of the local racers in his area and find out what shops people have had good experiences with. If it turns out there's nobody in the area, send it off.

Like you guys mentioned, look in your area for a REPUTABLE shop that does headwork. You might be able to get a high performance motorcycle shop to do it, or they might be able to lead you in the right direction. These engine builders usually know their ****. As for shops like Portflow, they are proven, reputable and the work is TOP NOTCH.. I agree with vtecvoodoo, I wouldn't let just anyone touch my ****. There are a lot of BUTCHERS out there. Do your research...

I looked in my area and the cheapest I could find was $1800 (I'm in Japan). I guess I'll go with Alaniz since I don't like the email that I got from Portflow a while back.

Street master head= ITR head??

Thats what it seems by the description of his headwork. If your going to do headwork, might as well get the full competition head.
