Default Broken bolt on transmission- I need to know it'[s size...

A friend broke a bolt off on my transmission (1988 honda accord lxi 5 speed sadan) and I need to know the size of this bolt. I'm really clueless about cars but am learning so I'll try to explain where the bolt is that I'm talking about.

I believe it's called a stabilizer bar. It's a rod (maybe hooked to the exhaust) that starts in the middle of the car then forks off at the transmission and it is bolted to the rransmission. (Maybe the gear shift stabilizer?)

It's a long bolt but not very big around. It's conected to the out side of the housing part of tran.
I have had several guys try to help me and it has been so screwed up that I now have it in a machine shop. The friend couldn't get the broken bolt out so he started chipping away and now there is a one inch deep and 1/2 inch wide area where you can't even tell whats what, the machine shop said that there is a broken bit in it also.

So I need to find out the size of this bolt so I can let the shop know because they have to fill in the hole and do a tap-die.
One of you must know what I'm trying to explain here, right...............
