Looking to put 16X8 with 0+ offset Sportmax's on a EP3, but what size tire?
so theres a member on here that had 16x8 0+ offset Sportmax's on his EP3, and I really liked the way it looked. I plan on doing the same. I know I'm biting his style, but I don't care
So my question is what size tires will fit on these without rubbing issues and still look good? I found out he was using 205/40/16 for them. But I heard you have to get them stretched to fit? Does every tire place know how to do this? Or would it be less hassle to get something like 225/45/16s? If it is, I'm then concerned if they would look weird. What you guys think?
Heres a pic for reference. I hope bimmerfrik doesn't mind

as to answer your question about rub......you have to ask yourself how stiff your suspension is......any wheel that wide with low offset be finst to rub.
probably will need to run a 205/40 and a super stiff suspension in order not to rub.
bigger tires like a 225/45 on some simple lowering springs and you will run into issues.
p.s. why dont you just IM him to find out what kind of issues he has.......oh and btw, anytime you rock some 16x8 +0 501 sportmax's you know your biting off at least one other persons style

thanks for the info.
yeah i tried IMing him but he takes a while to respond so you know

195/45-16 or 205/40-16 seems like a good stretch but from my experiance w/ putting tires on the 8" rim the tire guys i use really don't even flinch at installing them......
safety would be my main concern if this is going to be daily driven this way.
i like to use the 45 series to have some type of protection from my rims from potholes and such.... you need more negative camber back and front and to be more lowered to pull it off a lot better though.

The proper size 16" tire for your 2002-05 Civic is 205/50-16, which should be mounted on wheels 5.5-7.5 inches wide. A 16x8 should NOT be used on your car.

So how do you explain the people that use 16X8 on Civics, VWs, Scions, etc?

A lot of people use the wrong wheels for their cars. Heck, a lot of people use the wrong inflation pressures, and do lots of other stupid things. And a lot of people have blowouts and encounter other problems as a result (although others may luck out because an unsafe condition doesn't always result in a problem, just some of the time). Just because people do something, doesn't mean that it makes a lot of sense.
Also, just because something works on one kind of car doesn't mean it works on a different kind of car.

Thats not the point though man. The picture above is exactly what I want to do. The sportmax 002 0+ on a EP3. Not for an EG or anything. I mean I'm pretty sure the guy who owned the above pictured car, didn't run into any problems.

What he is doing - using a tire on wheels that are too wide and not approved by the tiremaker - is UNSAFE. "Stretching" tires onto overwide wheels generates excessive stress and heat in the sidewalls, which can lead to tire failure. If he didn't run into problems, he's lucky. And if he DID run into problems, you can bet he didn't admit his error by posting about it on any forums. Just because he hasn't posted about running into problems, doesn't mean he hasn't. And if he's been lucky enough not to have problems, that doesn't change the fact that it's still a VERY BAD IDEA. Period.
