Buddy Club coilovers: "Racing Spec" vs "P1"
I posted this in the Civic forum, but didn't get any feedback. Most of the dampener talk happens in here, so I'll throw this one out to you guys. I want to find out more about the Buddy Club Racing Spec and P1 dampeners. Are they the same thing? Different? If different, how so? I know there are several sources for BCRS's in the US, but what about the P1's -- where can I get those? Thanks in advance.
Here are the specs for the both dampers :
Racing Spec Damper
-16way adjustable
-adjustable shock length (stroke/ride height)
-46mm piston
-chromoly steel made
-comes with pillowball uppermount
-design to use on street and circuit
P.1 Damper
-36way adjustable
-adjustable shock length (stroke/ride height)
-full aluminum made
-46mm piston
-special order made to your specs
-can be used for street / circuit depends your specifications
-comes with pillowball uppermount
-super lightweight
-top of the line quality
-optional external remote reservoir
-special order spring rates

Thanks for the breakdown! What's the price diff between the two? And is there anybody who has either of the two variants in stock right now? Everywhere I've checked, it's all backordered.
I think I said this in the IM but if you aren't going to see a LOT of track time get the Racing Specs and use the saved money on other parts like a good LSD, cams, exhaust or something. Over here the Racing Specs can be bought for less than $1600(178000yen) while the P1's are a tad over $3k (328000 yen).
Dee, yes you did recommend the Racing Spec for a mostly street driven car, which mine is going to be. I'm so indecisive -- or maybe it's just that I want to make the right decision before dropping $1600-1800 on some dampeners
Between the Buddy Club Racing Spec and the Zeal S6, what would your unbiased opinion be? I know you run the S6's, and I really dig the 8lbs per corner lightness of them. But they're about $200 more than the BC's. Plus the Zeals LOOK nicer too, although I know that's probably last on the list of things to consider when choosing a dampener.

Racing Specs are available stock from R&D motorsports. P.1's are special order make so it is build under your spec that's why nobody will have them in stock.
Get the Racing Specs(BC RS) . There is a $600 price difference between BC RS and S6. Eventhough I run S6's with circuit springs on the street S6's should also be used on a setup sees a lot fo track time (or for someone who does a lot of Touge runs like me).
Your choices as far as price is concerned will be B6 or BC RS. I'm pretty sure everyone will recommend the RC RS. I know I will!

Well geesh... I appreciate the insight, but I still can't decide. BC RS's are $1650 shipped and Zeal S6's are $1800 shipped. That's the cheapest I can find them here in the US. So that's a diff of only $150. Argh... decisions decisions.
What's the advantage of a bigger piston size?????

There's a few differences between the two dampers that you should consider.
Buddy Club Racing Spec = Chromoly, 16 way adjustable, 46mm piston
Zeal S6 = Aluminum, 6 way adjustable, 42mm piston
Basically you have to choose between weight or adjustability.

Bigger piston size = more absorbing. BC is quite a bit heavier and it also has a very huge tunability from soft to stiff.
The normal B6 or S6 (which you can normally buy) is the same except the weight. If you want to have stiffer valving like Dee well you have to special order them from Endless Japan.
Street wise, Buddyclub RS is more than enough . If you want to go hardcore , suggestion is to get S6 (re-valved) , Super Functions or P.1s.

Buddy Club RS is your best bet. The larger piston versions also hold pressure better and do not heat up the oil as fast. Apexi is the only maker that sells high volumes of big piston coilovers (46mm and 52mm versions). Me and AJ are in no way connected but we are pretty much going to say the samething when asked about shocks.
OT: AJ I can't find a Carbing rear lower arm bar on the Okuyama site for a DC2. Is the Honda rear lower arm bar EK only?
