Default hood damper?

i want a small project to start for the a little while. During my swap i ended up breaking the little grommet piece that holds in the hood prop in place. Yea its only a 3 dollar piece from honda. But i want something a little more satisfiying. I searched but it only come up with 3 results for me. 2 being somewhat useful and the other i think he was just ranting about something i cant really remember.

I found Hawkz 2.3s post but which his was on a carbon fiber hood using ebay godspeed dampers. And i found Andrenalines post only to which he was selling and 2 is a 2 year old thread.
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1749913
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1498184

Now most of the hood damper products i see are for smaller cars with lighter hoods (ie: civics and integras) which im willing to say might/wont hold the weight of a prelude hood.

As far as i know there are no kits for honda preludes. So i already know that if i plan to do this that it need mods done to the set i pick up. Now what i would like to know is which ones would work well with our heavy hoods. try to find some accords or maybe even acura legend ones. i dunno??

and forgive me if there are already products for our cars which just shows that i epically failed to search the net lol.

and to Hawkze 2.3 and Andrenaline both threads were great help on what i need to look at but both are a little dated.

I don't understand why companies don't make one for 4th gen preludes. The market is there, lots of people want them. Why only make them for 97-01?

Lewsers.

I think if you found some dampers for an Accord they would work fine.

Jackpot! The 94-97 Accords are so similar to Preludes (including a big heavy hood) I don't see why that wouldn't work.

if anything I'm worried about clearence issues. I have a CF vented (Invader style) hood and i'd hate to see it bubble out near the fenders.

gen5alive makes accord hood dampers for 94-97 accords. Those accords and 4th gen preludes are so similar its insane i am almost 100% positive these would work

No, we barely even have hood dampers for our cars. You will have to rig something up, I did mine and it wasn't incredibly hard, but it took some thought.

Sure, here is the how I mounted mine. It was the best setup I could come up with after looking at all the different angles and such involved:

I just bolted the damper bracket to the trunk arms and the other end of the damper to the frame like in the pic. You may have to realign your trunk afterwards (which isn't very hard) because sometimes the tension from the dampers makes it sit differently.

MORE PICS PLEASE!
All the unneeded stuff is gone pretty much...back seats and braces and speaker mounts and such. It will look a lot better once it's painted. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow.

hawkze! tell me how the hell you managed to drill thru the wheel well. i'm stuck with mine. i've got my trunk arms all drilled and bolted for the dampers but i'm having a hard time getting through the metal. i've bought titanium bits. what size bit and tool did you use to punch through that.

it sucks having to keep the trunk open with your arm.

All of the sound deadening is completely gone except for what is shown in that pic. I used dry ice and it would of been a bit difficult to make it stay on a vertical surface like that :p

Just a normal sharp drill bit for metal. Push harder and you will make it through, it's just thin auto sheet metal like the rest of the car
