Default noob with lug nuts and studs, please help

i've already read the sticky at the top and it's answered most of my questions. however i still have these questions to ask:

i have OEM studs so can i use the extended lug nuts or should i just use regular sized lugs? would extended lugs look right on OEM studs? anyone have pics?

are the closed lugs only for OEM studs?

what is the purpose of lugs being open/closed?

You can use extended lug nuts on oem studs.
Open ended are usefull when u use extended studs, because of the length of the studs the lug nut need to have an open end otherwise it won't fit.

You can see that in this picture:

If the lug nuts weren't open ended it wouldn't fit.

extended studs are used when you are running spacers, but a lot of people do it for looks, i wouldn't get them unless i needed them. depending on the brand the old ones are pressed out and the new ones are pressed in, some require a tack weld to hold them in place, a friend of mine had H&R studs and didn't tack weld them and they started spinning from their seat so he upgraded to ARP ones and tacked them.

also some tracks only allow slicks with extended studs.

One has nothing to do with the other.

Spacers are designed to push the wheels out away from the car, such as if the offset is not right for your car.

Open end lug nuts are designed for use with studs that are too long for closed end lug nuts.

Now it makes perfect sense. Thanks.
