Default What is this foam coming through the vents?

It's dark gray and whenever I touch it, it falls apart. It's very brittle. Is it insulation falling off the vents?

That sounds like the old foam insulation. they used it around all the places the duct work meets. but when it gets old the glue base of the foam strips come loose and it can blow out thru the vents.
