Default HELP!! Another ticket...

OMGG! I got another ticket tonight. I think this is my third, plus Ive been in an accident. I went to traffic school for one of those. Am I toast? The cop was totally chill and told me he only saw one point on my record. But I got a letter in the mail after my accident that I had three. I was doing 91 on the freeway, 1:30am no traffic whatsoever. Just cruising along trying to get home after a movie. Not racing or anything. DAMNIT!! I'm pissed. Someone help me out, can I go to court and try to fight it? what do I say?

So you're pissed about getting caught for speeding?

So basically you want to fight a ticket you got for blatantly breaking the law with no reasonable excuse. Good luck with that one.

Stop freaking going fast!!! I mean, it really isnt complicated. Take your car to a local track, there's no speed limit (or cops) there.

Really don't feel bad for you if you're just "cruising" at 91 and get a ticket. This is how people learn though.

I know down here in Georgia if your under the ago of 21 and get a ticket that is 4 point by its self(which yours should be) you get you license suspended for 6 months.

This happen to me i was doing 97 in a 65 and went to court and didnt have to see a judge i just paid the $500 went home thought everything was cool and 3 days later I got a letter in the mail saying they was suspended

The fact that you think its okay to do atleast 26mph over the speed limit AFTER already getting three tickets tells me that you need to have your license suspended so you can learn how to be a responsible driver.

I've had my license for 3 years and I have one moving violation for doing 58 in a 40 because the speed limit dropped 10mph and I didnt see the sign at 1am on a backroad with no streetlights. I told the prosecutor what happened and it was dropped to unsafe operation without points and a small fine because I made an honest mistake.

... ... ya I got three tickets, doing 80 on the freeway, 50 in a 40, and this. *sigh* Im gonna ask for a defferal. Cuz i still gotta be able to drive to work! I mean really i did learn my lesson after my accident (rear ended a lady 30mph was paying attention to something else) and i never drive fast in residential ever! the freeway i like to keep pace with the rest of traffic, but last night there was no traffic and i wasnt paying attention to my odometer. Am I really a bad driver? so then i really do deserve this...

Are you a bad driver? Possibly.
I know lots of younger people who are worse drivers than this, but I know a lot who are better, too.

You need to learn to pay attention. Youre driving...so...drive! Dont do other things, like text people (oh jesus, Ive seen it) play with the radio, look out the side window at girls, etc...

It seems to me like you need to use cruise control, more than anything...
Yes, you do deserve it, however.

Although part of me agrees with you, at the same time I see it from another perspective.

I had a friend 4 years ago who owned a thoroughly-modified, white eg hatch. One day we got pulled over, and the cop gave him 9 tickets (tint too dark, blue signal lights, exhaust too loud, no ownership, horn didn't work, etc etc). He had only been driving a few months (just bought the car a couple weeks before) and got 9 tickets in one sitting...

I don't think making a relationship between age (or yrs behind the wheel) and # of tickets is valid.

I'm 22, I've had 7 tickets, and not a single one has made it on my record because I go to court and the cops don't show up. So in the 5-6 years I have been driving, I have 0 tickets. You have 1 ticket. So am I better somehow?

My most recent ticket is speeding 70 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone. Pffft, what a joke. Court date is set in July...

Lol guilty 2/3 (I fortunatley do NOT txt while driving, I am though guilty of the other two)

I understand.

But heres the thing, If I have two priors and and accident, thats Three points right? but i went to Traf. school for one of those so that makes it 2 points + this one? i mean im just trying to be optimistic here. But i doubt it cuz for some reason i think i got 2 for the accident but idk why, there was no gross neglegence i was not speeding or DUI i was just stupid. so is there a way to fight the 2 point conviciton?

So it IS true? i can just go to court and pray that the cop doesnt show? lol you wont believe it but i think the cop was sorry for giving me this one. he was still in training cuz he had a partner and the newbie kept asking him questions. and when i told him i had 3 already he kinda was like lol and said <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Cop &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Wait, I just checked your record and you only have one point, well you know you can always go to court and fight it right?</TD></TR></TABLE> So thats what i mean by he was hella chill. Still i gotta try, I really cant get my lic. suspended right now.

Tickets suck ***....and fighting it..i dont think anything goes wrong with that...either the cop shows up and says u guilty and u just end up paying fee....or cop doesnt show and u get away...(not sure if thats how it works when cop shows up)

I got a ticket about 2 years ago for going 125+ on the freeway with 5 ppl in the car including me. Yea i was pretty stupid i would say and had the mentality of a ricer.
Well went to court pleaded No Contest and Judge just said i had to pay 238. for No License and speeding 125+. (yea i didnt have a license then) car got inpounded...etc..sucks...bt i guess i deserved it.

Mmm....it all depends on the judge as well...if he is a dick then Good Luck.

Wow, the attitude of some of the people in this thread is unbelievable. Giving this kid **** for driving the UNHOLY SPEED of 91 mph when no one else was around? Gosh, I'm glad there were no women or children around to see such a blatant disregard for not only safety, but for the laws of the road. That's absolutely unacceptable. I hope they cut off his ********* for exceeding the posted speed limit when no one was around.

Seriously, are you kidding me??

The attitudes in this thread sound like those of my local ******* friends, the California Highway Patrol, like when my buddy got a ticket for going 78 in a 65 on Highway 1 (super smooth straight highway with no traffic) or when I got a ticket for going 86 on Highway 280 in the middle of the night (four lanes wide and I was the only car on the entire road).

I've come to hate driving in this country. The cops are ********, no one knows how to drive (especially old people...take away their licenses imo), and the roads suck. There's such a misconception about safety on the road, it's appalling. Speeding tickets are $300-$400 and a seatbelt ticket is around $90. And that makes no sense.

To the OP: your best bet, IMO, is a two step process. First, try the Trial by Written Declaration. You have to write a testimony and mail it in. This is beneficial in two ways: first, the cop gets paid for going to the courthouse, so they have an incentive to go. But they don't get anything for filling out the written trial--it's just something they have to do. And if they don't submit anything, you automatically win. The second thing about this is that if they do submit something and you do indeed lose, you can reschedule another court date and this time just show up. By then, hopefully the cop's memory will have faded or they just won't show up. This is your chance to actually fight it in person.

And the last thing you might try doing is something I've had to resort to....driving the speed limit. I used to cruise at 80 or 90 all the time, dodging traffic if I needed to, having a great time and getting places quickly. But a few tickets and ruined insurance later...well, a big '[freak] you' is in order to the CHP, thanks guys, you have officially made driving on the highway suck ***, and taken away a ton of money from the people who need it most: college students.

1. why didnt you buy a good radar detector like a valentine 1 after your first ticket?
2. if you knew you had two tickets and would loose youre liscense if you got one more why were you going 91?
3. just plead not guilty and see what happens, fines&gt;points
4. I are a noob

well personally i didnt buy an si hatch and put i/h/e and plan on turboing to drive slow and know theres a place and time like the track and what not but ... on an open highway at 130 with no one around seems to me your were only harm to yourself which is your business but thats a whole other ball game. definetly fight it. i got 105 in 65 last november. it was and is my only ticket ever. so i didnt fight it. cost me 216 and 5 points and lost my license for fifteen days because of the speed. i had to go to a department hearing and the cop i met with told me to always fight a ticket. cops dont always show up and even if they do the cop or judge might reduce your speed so you dont lose your license so you can drive to college or work. and to those who are so appalled by his speed. ever been in rush hour traffic around houston texas or similiar large cities? have seen up to 90 mph four lanes wide. although cruise control is on in my car now as much as possible.

im sorry bro, but speeding in excess, which you were, regardless of the time of day/night, still deserves a ticket. The track is the time and place to speed, not on the streets.
