BIG PROBLEM!!!!
My girlfriend's EJ just overheated, there's smoke coming out from the engine. She and her friends (one girl and one guy) are stuck on the side of the road, 100 miles away from LA. I'm in Norcal. What should I tell her to do?
The headgasket may be blown.. If there's white smoke coming out of the exhaust, that means it's blown and you DON'T want to drive it. You may have also blown a coolant hose, check to see if any of them are blown. See if radiator cap blew off, that will spray coolant everywhere causing lots of over-spray on the hot motor.
Tell them to check in the coolant overfill tank and see if there's a milky mixture in there. If it's not looking like a green or blue coolant the HG is blown.

get some water in it and drive it to the nearest town. If white smoke is coming out of the exhaust its a blown head gasket. last resort you can drive with it just not very far. Tell them to watch the temp.
There's no white smoke coming out of the exhaust, but just a misty smoke. I assume it's a coolant leak. How far do you think she can drive on a busted hose?
