Does this style turbo manifold kick ass? Or does it totally suck?

I think its "log" style.

ive heard that the longer the runners, you have a wider range of tuning plus more torque.

the first thing i thought when i saw this was....its one side of a v8 manifold modified to fit that engine.
It has its pluses and minuses.
plus: nice large runners
minus: its going to crack in about 2 days
plus: wastegate dumps equally from all ports
minus: it is supporting some serious weight
plus: can shorten charge piping which will reduce lag
minus: with a FMIC it makes the charge piping actually longer
plus: you are different
minus: people make fun of different things (note posts on this thread)

Well they get an A for effort but thats about it, i agree it looks like it would crack rather easily

look how thick the piping is. i think it would last. if i were them i would of made it a tang-divide manifold. you know it can be done, it would also strenghten the setup.
It's very similar to a turbo manifold for a SB Ford (or Chevy possibly, but who cares about the nasty bowties).
All these people knocking it for no reason - it's better than no turbo!
Also, I'm sure the turbo itself is braced so the header doesn't have that much wieght on it that it should crack.

Actually that manifold might be better than everone is judging it to be. The purpose of having a manifold in that configuration on a 4 cylinder to catch the sound pulses coming from the burnt exhaust gases. There is a certain path that the pulses travel, and usually a manifold that looks like that is design to optimize the flow of those pulses. Although it takes major fluid dynamics to figure out exactly what configuration the runners have to be, the pay off is lots and lots of free horsepower. There was alot of studying/work done on this years back to get the optimal flow patterns of engines, and trying to make the engines more efficient. There are n/a headers that take this phenomon into account, and those headers produce the most hp. The overall quality looks ghetto, but if that was designed right look for gains of 40-50hp (which i dont think it was) over a log style manifold.
Those theories work for n/a but not for turbos. Length has nothing to do with torque curves or exhaust extraction. Turbos work off of heat energy, not flow. That manifold will lose lots of thermal energy before the exhaust hits the turbine. The manifold should at least be wrapped with heat shielding material.
He can keep his a/c! That is a good enough reason for it. Doesn't look that bad, and origanality shouldn't put you in the lame category since it's not at all lame to have a turbo like that. Just because someone doesn't follow the crowed means the person has something wrong with them.
That manifold is kinda like this manifold, done by John@Hitech. Good try though.
