Gauge cluster swap now a CEL?
I recently swapped my gauge cluster from my 99 civic dx that had a tach and everything (in case your wondering why, I swapped it because the fuel and engine temp needles broke off ) to a JDM cluster.
heres the one i bought off ebay:

Right after i hooked everything up and everything did directly hook up, my CEL came on? what could that be? I'm wondering maybe the CEL was on with my other cluster and the bulb was burnt out or something and i didn't know, because my engine was a problem where it randomly dies when I'm driving (see my other posts). any help would be great!!

I work at an oil change shop so I can just read the codes when I go to work tomorrow. I'm thinking though if it is just the cluster then what code could I get? And that just doesn't make sense to me at all so it had to be that light was burnt out or something because why would i get a code for a direct replacement cluster?
Prolly just your secondary o2 sensor like mine. Pretty much anyone with any exhaust mods has problems with their o2 sensors. The secondary o2 sensor just reads the catalyst efficiency in the catalytic converter. I have a high flow cat so I have no need for this sensor. It was already throwing a code so I didnt see any need in replacing it since I dont need it. I just removed it completely and live with the cel.
Yeah that makes sense but both my O2 sensors are plugged into my header. I don't have a cat just straight piped. What is the 2nd 02 sensor even used for?

If your secondary o2 sensor isnt plugged into an OEM cat it usually will make your cel come on. I almost promise you thats what it is. It pretty much just tells you if youre cat is good or not.
Oh ok thats makes sense thanks. I will read the codes tomorrow and post back here to tell ya what they are. It would make sense then to convert your car to OBD1 so you can get get rid of your 2nd 02.
Its not going to throw a code bc he switch the cluster to another OEM cluster and didnt remove the negative battery cable. Removing that just resets the ECU. He said everything directly hooked up so its plug and play and so it is still "stock".
Ok, I read the codes and since I don't know what they mean or how to interpret them, I will just write them exactly as how they came up:
P0113 (IAT)
Intake Air
Temperature Sensor -Circuit
High Input
P0420
P0420
Catalytic Convertor System -Efficiency
Below Threshold (Bank 1)
Any there they are. You were right about the cat, and I think the below threshold thing might be apart of the P0420 one, but as for the others I have no idea

So I looked at the H-T sticky for reading CEL's and it turns out that the high input code, and all of them down from that are related to the cat, and the temperature sensor one is related to the P0113. The ones with the cat are to be expected since I don't have a cat, but for the IAT one, what could that be?
If you dont know what a IAT sensor is its the one that plugs into your intake before the throttle body and intake manifold. Just replace it. And I wouldnt worry about the other code.
Ok sounds easy enough. I was thinking though that I have an ebay intake and the IAT sensor is literally taped into the little hole for the sensor since its ebay **** quality, so could that cause any problems or do I just need to replace it?
lol it came with the car when i bought it. its the only ebay part on my car thankfully. i'm still going to replace the iat and if it doesn't fix the problem then i'm going to put on a better intake
bump. is it worth it to put on an aem cai or just an aem short ram. i know cai make more power and have always thought that they make more power at the top end because of the longer tubing, but i read something saying they make more bottom end power? which one is right? i'm not concerned about water worries since it does not rain much here and i am willing to pay the extra for a few more ponies. would u say its worth it?
