Default E8 MW/SW/SE meetup potential

I guess we need to gauge the interest of whether or not we want to do this, I know a few of us are all for it but we will need to make changes to plans to make it happen.

Tentatively the MW/SW caravan would meet with the SE caravan in Statesville,NC. Also is the MW and SW still planning on meeting in Nashville on Saturday night? What time? I think we had said 1700 or so.

SE is planning on being in that general area around 1300-1330 Sunday. MW/SW is attending Chris' (Aquafina) BBQ which is slated to start at 1200 according to Chris' E8 BBQ thread. In order to meet the SE guys in Statesville at 1300-1330 we would need to leave Chris' house by probably 1030 at the latest. (my map at work shows that Johnson City to Statesville is a 2-2.5 hr drive but with trailers I figured we would add a little time to be safe) So do we want to make this a morning BBQ and roll out early to make this happen?

I'm up for anything, I just thought that we should discuss this a little more than what has been going on in a couple of threads in order to make this happen.

MW/SW/SE caravan > NE any day

VIR is 3-3.5 hours from my place so going to meet up with the SE caravan doesn't make much sense to me.

Chris which way are you going to get to VIR from your house?

With some people having trailers, I don't see anyone taking anything but I-26 down to Asheville then taking I-40 east up to Greensboro and whatever to VIR

Going that way would be 9 hours versus 4 hours via 81 to 77 to VIR.

Chris, I just ran both ways on my map at work and here you go:

Johnson City to Asheville to Greensboro to VIR 290 miles 4 hrs 25 minutes

Johnson City to I-77 to I-74 to Greensboro to VIR 267 miles 4 hrs 24 minutes

So they are practically identical. By the way the software that I am using is for eighteen wheelers so those times should be a little shorter

I'm all for making this happen. We WILL be leaving the CLT area hotel at noon. Not sure what time that puts us at the meeting location, but I think we should try to make this happen. Even if it is for an hour or so to VIR from said meeting location.

Mapquest puts my place to Ashville to Greensboro to VIR about 5.5 hours.

Chris if you look at the map on mapquest when you put Johnson City to VIR it doesn't take you down into NC on I-77, you end up exiting onto US-58 east which takes you thru VA and it is a very twisty road which would be fun for non trailer pullers and would take about 4 hrs 22 minutes and is 244 miles

if you put Johnson City to Ashville to VIR on mapquest I got 291 miles and about 5 hrs

Plan for MW is to take the same path as last year (except for the stop at fina's house) since it was the friendliest path for trailor's.

Ok, if you guys left Charlotte at 1200 that would put you in Statesville 41 miles at roughly 1300

if we were to meet up in Greensboro 92 miles from Charlotte it would be around 1400 or so

These are rough estimates, added a little time to each one, it shouldn't take 1 hour to drive 40 miles but just in case someone is running late or whatever

If its "easier" or "better" to meet further from Charlotte, that is fine with me. Just not sure what time you guys are planning on leaving and if that gives you more time, then great.

Hmm. Statesville is further south than I thought. Google shows that adding only about 25 mi versus CLT to GSO on 85.

Without looking at it. It sure seems like it.

The only way to make this happen is if we leave from Johnson City earlier than planned or the SE caravan doesn't leave from Charlotte till about 1330-1400.

Chris' BBQ is planned for noon, so that would put us in Statesville at about 1430-1500. If we want to be in Statesville at 1300 we would need to leave Johnson City at 1030
