i know this sounds like a noob question, but never messed with any DC's. this is my first, im an EF guy. I just got a good deal on a 95 teg with no motor and another guy at work had a 97 that had been wrecked, so i figured i would buy the 99 and take the swap out of that. well the motor in the 97 is actually a 99, but that is just a plus b/c i figured lower miles. anyhow, the vin tag on the motor has a DC4# the tag on the trans has a DC2 number. would this be a gsr tranny?? that is what i am thinking b/c LS's should have DC4 right?

 

look for stampings on the tranny

 

this should help and answer every question you will have. the stamp you are looking for is on the side facing the front of the car and should have a three character code. S80, y80 s4c that kind of thing. http://www.ff-squad.com/tech/temp/Bgears.htm

cool i hope it is, the wrecked car has just been a pretty good deal all around. it had a great running motor, a jdm guage cluster, skunk2 coilovers and maybe even a gsr. what im gonna do just to be sure what it has, im gonna call the dealership with the vin and see what they say it was, thanks guys

 

Whats stamped on the motor? it will tell you what it is.... it should be stamped into the metal close to the tranny on the block.

 

yeah the stamp on the metal tag near where the motor and tranny meet is a JHDC2.... wasnt sure if the dc vin was a gsr or not. the motor is an ls and the metal tag on the block has a DC4...

 

i thought you were referring to the motor when you said i might even have a GSR pretty sure the tranny is GSR
