Default High Flow CAT: crx with a gsr swap and suspension.

I just finished a GSR swap in a CRX. I'm shopping for a open CAT but am not sure whether I buy one for a GSR model, or CRX model.

Does it matter? Both are 2.5" in diameter, but are they the same length?

Using RS*R Exmag II cat back exhaust.

Here is what I'm looking at:
GSR
CRX

also, I want to drop my car. The rear is up high with the extra weight up front from the swap. The Tokico HP Strut/Spring set is around 400. Is it worth it or is there something better for the money?

To tell you the truth, I just want to lower the car, more for aesthetic reasons, but also could use a handling upgrade. The cheaper the better, but still something of good quality.

I'm not positive, but I think neither will line up with your stock exhaust, you will need a muffler shop to extend or cut it a bit. and If all you want is a "test pipe" you could just have a muffler shop make one, it should be fast and easy.

and IMHO I think not having a cat makes a honda sound like crap, I just got done putting a high flow cat back on my car, cause I was getting tired of being loud.
but to each his own.

And just so you know Tokico HP's are garbage, they claim to be perfomance shocks but they are really just stock replacements. and if you plan on lowering the car, those shocks will blow out on you real quick.
You should look into illumina's or koni shocks or some sort of adjustable shock.

I'm pleased with my simple lowering springs (eibach pro kit/illumina shock combo) it was fairly affordable too.
just stick to the reputable companies like H&R, or Eibach

Yeah, I ruled test pipe out of the picture once I did some searching.

I'm just going to get the GSR high flow cat from ebay, and have a muffler shop adjust accordingly if it doesn't fit.

Would the pro-kit springs be to much to handle for a stock CRX shock? Or is it worth spending money on a strut upgrade?

edit: grog do you have any pics of your ride? I want to see what your drop looks like.

I have no experience with stock shocks with lowering springs, but most people will say that they cant handle the drop, and will blow. a few people claim that stock shocks ride perfect.

the Eibach pro kit gives you a 1.2" drop in the front and 1" in the rear

I too have the pro-kit and am very pleased with it. Handles great and the drop is perfect for some that lives with rough roads. My front mudflaps are an inch off the ground and the oil pan about 4.5 inches. I also have Koni Yellows and right now I'm stiff as fawk and feel like I can corner at a hundred, but knock my fillings out on a mouse because i have the old style rears and dont want to remove them to adjust. I would deff. spend the money and get koni yellows and the pro kit, or if you can go lower G/C coil overs. If you can buy a gsr swap and the parts I saw in ur build, $600 shouldnt be questioned for a great riding suspension setup that will last.

dont use stock shocks unless you want a bouncy ride, go for upgraded shocks, koni yellows or tokico illuminas, i have stock replacements on my crx with neuspeed race springs, the ride isnt horrible, but its still a little bouncy, the moment these shocks go im going koni yellows and ground controls, do it right the first time, even if its just for show purposes, youll have a quality suspension that is tried and tested on the ef chassis

I'm just looking for something to ride around for a couple months. I will be going GC/Koni Yellow, ST rear sway bar, LCA, and front/rear tie bars, but I need to pay off the RR first.

So until the end of the summer, I just want a small handling upgrade and a lower look before spending major bucks. That's also why I don't want to upgrade shocks if necessary, because I will eventually be riding Koni Yellow's in the near future.

I've been doing some searching, and it seems like the people who run pro-kits or springs that drop less than 1.5" are fine on stock struts. Plus, I just need my stock struts to last for a couple more months.

I've foound a set of pro-kits for $208 shipped, and am looking into H&R springs as well.

I like my OBX High-Flow to R*SR Ex-Mag

When I put in the obd0 b16a in the car i just had to undo the 3 back bolts and spin it 45 degrees and rebolt it in.

the usdm si header was like ====> /
jdm was like ===============> \

I ran it to a muffler place when i first saw it, then while he had it on the lift it was plain to see no cutting was required.

the only reason for anything like that would be if the slack was too tight/didnt reach etc which i bet you'll have no problem with that. my bet is on a 100% bolt in affair

if you're upgrading at the end of the summer anyway, why not just wait until then to do it? why spend the money on something intermediate? just curious.

Me too, this seems all too common here on Honda-Tech.

truth.

After talking to some wise folks, this is also the conclusion I have come too. It's not worth spending $200 on lowering springs, when your just going to replace them a couple months later. If your going to do it, do it right the first time.

Thus, I will wait until some more money comes in and then complete the suspension set-up that the car deserves.

I just ordered the High Flow Cat, I will update and let you guys know how the install went.
