2000 Civic Si Gas Milage
Hello Guys,
I hope i am posting in the right place. I am planning on Buying a 2000 Civic Si with minor upgrades (Exchaust, 18" rims and Cold Air intake), The car haws about 134,000 Milage. My question is how much gas milage would it give me. I just recentely sold my Eclipse GS-T because it was giving me way less gas milage and i had to dive 20Miles to work Each day.
Just want to know your openion and one more thing You can only put Premium gas in there right now regular.
Thanks much in advance for your feekback.

well first off those 18's arent going to help yoru gas mileage any. i had a set and it sucked, back on the oem rims i pulled 38 mpg on my last tank, which is great for an si, most get around 28-32mpg
I got a 1999 Si B16A2 swap in my 1998 HX, and it gets high 30's...
Never have weighed my HX, but I'm sure it's lighter than a Si, soooo...
Mileage may vary - LoL!
I think most '99-'00 Si owners get high 20's / low 30's like Frickr said.

My B16A2 runs okay on Regular Unleaded but it's kinda edgy, i.e. schizo...
It runs MUCH smoother on Premium Unleaded - and that's what Honda recommends!

I use plus 89 unleaded in my 99 SI. The best I have seen so far was 34 mpg. No to little vtec-ing
Average is about 25 to 30, You will have to judge for yourself depending on your driving style.

I have a bone stock '00 Si that consistently gives me ~34mpg on the hwy. However, I do drive it pretty conservatively. The highway can be a killer if you run too fast. I've noticed that once you cruise above 70-80mph, gas mileage decreases dramatically (because at that speed you're probably running 4000-4500rpm +).
I usually obey the 'premium unleaded only' message on the gas lid. I've used regular and plus on numerous occasions, and didn't notice any appreciable differences in how the car ran and idled. The Si has a 12 gallon tank, so you can figure, even if you filled her up all the way, it only costs an extra 2-3 bucks to put in the good stuff.

Cheers guys

Good choice!
If you can't force yourself to buy Premium Unleaded - just tune your car for Regular Unleaded - that's all...
Personally, I *think* the state-of-tune accounts for some ppl being able to run Regular Unleaded in a Si with no problem - while others can't!
Soooo...
While you'll get different 'opinions' on the fuel requirements, depending on who you 'talk' to - the MPG seems to be fairly constant - in fact, matches up pretty closely with what Honda claims...
Anyway, have fun, and watch where you park it - thieves LOVE Si's too!!!

Heh!
Got 41.1 MPG on the last tank -- B16A2-EJ7 -- Valero Premium Unleaded
Gonna see what I get on this tank with Chevron Regular Unleaded...
EDIT
Okay... I got 41.45 MPG with Chevron Regular Unleaded
Actually, Chevron Regular runs pretty good in my car. It must have a little higher octane than the other 'Regulars'...
Or maybe its the Techron additive. Whatever!
I think I'll stick with Chevron Regular for a while...

for me, if i use anything below 91 octane, i get a slight knock under load, and heavy acceleration. i also have the j spec b16 so slightly higher compression. also depends on where i fill up, theres only one place in my town that sells 91, the other 2 have 89 with 10% ethonal. if i put that in, i get about 25 tops on the highway. so fuel does matter, atleast for me

No it won't. A cold air intake won't lower your MPG. The density difference of the air in back of the headlight (stock location) to the fender well (cold air intake's intake location) is negligible. If your gas mileage drops after putting on a cold air intake, it's probably not the intake's fault, it's probably the little bit extra power you feel or the noise it makes.
What most people don't realize is the biggest factor when driving for MPG is how you drive. If you try that early shifting myth crap and lug the crap out of the engine then you'll get lower gas mileage than if you put the RPM higher and shifted, but either way how hard you have the gas depressed plays a big role in that - but since you have a B16 the damn thing's geared so short you usually won't have to worry about lugging it. If you drive FOR mpg then you will GET mpg...you can't nail it everywhere and drive like a ricer bitch and expect to get 36mpg, it just doesn't work that way. I usually pull ~36 in my EX on the highway with the AC on (and that's over long trips so it's quite accurate), but I also don't drive conservatively all the time. I haven't really measured it around town :-|.
Look up gas saving methods, look up hypermilling.
Getting great gas mileage is a joint-effort by both the car/engine and the driver. You have a B16 - it's shorter than **** in terms of transmission gearing, so if you take it at 75 or 80, then you'll burn through gas a lot quicker.
100 mile trip @ 80mph = 1 hour 15 minutes
100 mile trip @ 75mph = 1 hour 20 minutes
100 mile trip @ 70mph = 1 hour 26 minutes
Think it over.
When your gearing is as short as it is - weigh over how fast you're going on the highway, and learn where your car makes its torque. Those trip to 8200 RPM punch a hole in your MPG, I don't care how fuel efficient your car is.

stock with aftermarket wheels and catback 96 hatch dx gets consistent 38 mpg driving 90 miles a day to work highway. average mph about 75. gets me stoked when i hear people paying 67 bucks to fill tank every week when all i pay is 32! =D
i get around 26-28 mpg highway, but i also do 80, either way, like it has been said Si's gearing is damn short, try a few different methods and find out which suits your gas expectations, also, after the purchase of the car, the ABSOLUTE next purchase should be an alarm system
I had a 00 Civic Si from new (50 miles) til I sold it with 80,000 miles and regularly saw about 25-35mpg depending on city or highway.
My car had intake, exhaust, coilovers, header, pulleys, lightweight battery, sway bar, and full interior. For autocrosses I would put on my 205/50x15" Azenis on 15x7" Enkei RPF1s (10lbs each). I never put in less than 91 octane though as the timing would retard and you would get less performance, but this was back before gas prices went crazy.
For daily driving I would put on the 195/55x15" tires for better mpg and rolling resistance. And I would also put in about 35-38 psi per tire to get less rolling resistance.
The big thing to save gas on this car is staying below 4000rpms, which is tough
I just did an experiment last week on my 93 Civic Si. To get to work I would have to get on the highway for about 10 miles. I would usually drive a little fast
I would get about 30mpg. Last week I drove at the speed limit and started to get 35-40mpg (not sure yet since i haven't filled up yet). Yeah people were passing me like I was standing still, but who cares? It's not NASCRAP or Indy, your are just driving to work. I never understood why people have to be faster than the next person on the road. I'm at about 1/2 tank and so far have driven 230 miles.
I found this site recently talking about speed vs. aerodynamics. I heard about it before but never really followed it until gas prices were this high:

If you go below you can see some testing done with different speeds and how mpg is affected.

I got a 99 si DC 4-1 header, short ram, tanabe cat back. and some other minor stuff and i consistently get 31-34 mpg at around an avg. of 70-80mph highway. And i smack vtech occasionally. They get good gas mileage, most Honda's do.
