Which one pulls better?
Just curious, which motor pulls better on a crx?
B18B with b16a tranny, RS*R Exhaust, DC headers, AEM intake
or
B16A with ITR cams, pistions, camshalf, with B16a Tranny, RS*R exhaust, DC headers, AEM intake
No boosting, just with the setup above, which one pulls better?

The B18 is going to put out more torque which will help you get off the line, but the B16 with the Vtec is going to do much better in the upper rpms. From My experience stock to stock in EF civics the LS has 140hp the B16 has 160hp the ls has more torque, it will depend on the driver if we are talking quarter mile race.
It will be close, when you start adding parts its a diffrent ball game. The LS B18 is not balance so it doesn't rev as high as the B16 Safely, but with cams that can move some of the power to the upper RPMs its a force it can be come a beast for what it is. The B16 with just type R cams and a good header and a tune and that thing will blow the door off cars that you wouldn't even expect, I've seen it. So its all about your weapon of choice but for what its wort and the availability the B18 come a dime a dozen, cheap to buy, and with a B16 tranny and a few slight mods your set..
By the way the B18 if you did choose to go boost can easily and safely be boosted to 10Psi with a decent tune and put down at least a solid 250ish WHP, the Compression on the b16 won't allow it to run quite as much boost.
Hope that helps, and for the record my Hatch is getting a B20 or B18 built for boost, it can be done for much less than you think.

Before I wrote about this subject, I figured the b18b would be better. More torque as it stated. More options to build upon as well. An all motor LS would be a powerhouse monster against a all motor b16.
I work for a Japanese engine importer here in Northern California so I see these engines come and goes, I'm going to purchased a B18b perferrably a 94-95 OBD1 and have it stored in the garage and slowly build it up.
I have own 2 crx in my life time, one with a sohc zc that I swapped myself and another one that had a b16 with itr internals that was already swapped. The b16 was fast, but couldn't be daily driven. I'm also looking more into a daily driven crx with some torque. The best way to go would be the B18B considering I could get it from Japan for no more than $460 with transmission out the door. Which gives me some extra cash to put some work into the head and aftermarket parks.
Thanks for the reply.

b16 would be faster but it's not a fair competition. you're comparing a semi "built" b16 to a pretty much stock ls motor. if you did cams, pistons, and bolt-ons to an ls that would be different.

i would say b18b.. but then again i'm bias
in all seriousness they are a drivers race if both engines are stock. with the aforementioned mods listed i dunno i still think they would be pretty close.

B18 higher end torque also like they said its compairing a stock ls against a built B16.
B16 alot lower end torque build up the B18 cams etc.... may be better bet IMO
