Default Tanabe is starting to sound ricey

HI i've had my tantabe RM for a year and a half, is sounded real nice and deep all throught the rev's but recently it's been breaking up at Vtec and sounds canny, i hate it and it makes me not want to hit Vtec, the exhaust is not very old and i'm running the stock cat, if it runs for a long time and the exhaust gets really hot it doesnt do it, i'm thinking it might be a leak? or can the insulation have burned out so quickly?

The Tanabe is just like that - it's straight through, with minimal bends.. so it's gonna be loud! Just like the Spoon N1 - which I have run on my car before it gave me migranes - lol.

I'm thinking of switching over to a HyTech, or Comptech system - that deep growly tone just gets to me!

You don't lie! Everyone here has Mustangs, T/As or Camaros in one flavor or another.

I can't stand it... and as for the rice... there's more Rice here than there is in Cambodia.

It's a disgrace. I'll post pics sometime - lol.

After 3+ years, my Tanabe Hyper is still deep and holding up perfectly.

i have the tanabe racing medallion on my teg and it sounds great. I've haven't had much problems except that it sometimes flutters. Other than that it's still a great loud exhaust. Scares the sh*tz out of old folks and jaywalkers so it's all good.

first of all cat back systems were never meant to last for ever. and most after a while change in tone due to 1. break in 2. wear and tear 3. water in teh muffler lol i never put water in my exhaust when i washed my car

That is quite different from the Racing Medallion. The Hyper Medallion is a larger oval muffler, like the GReddy SP or A'PEXi WS, while the Racing Medallion is a canister, probably smaller in diameter than the A'PEXi N1. Canisters will always be loud w/o a silencer, unless you have a turbo or something to quiet down the exhaust.

It could be an exhaust leak. I had one last week with my N1. It sounded like *** but I also noticed the ratteling of a loose bolt before I noticed the exhaust note change.

I can't say that mine is "buzzy" as you had said, but it does have a droning resonation at highway speeds that after a short trip leaves your ears ringing. I love the exhaust, but I think I'm ready for an upgrade.

After a while, depending on what they pack the muffler with, it can either get all stuffed into one side, or it can flat "burn out", which will both make it sound terrible. Usually fiberglass mufflers are prone to that, which is why Magnaflow and others have gone to a stainless steel mesh, which won't burn out over time. If Tanabe didn't put a resonator in your system, a local muffler shop could add one in for maybe $100, which will mellow out the sound considerably.

Good Luck,
Nick

I got a 94 ls. The TRM is the exhaust ive been lookin to get. I DO NOT wanna get one thats buzzy/fart sounds. Ive heard that this ones hella loud with a deep sound. I got an intake and some DC headers hooked up already. Just wondering if anyone else reading this has this exhaust and if theirs makes buzzy sounds.
