Default My 95 vtec with slight mods is slower than my stock 96?

So here's the story my friend works at a dealership got me a deal on a 95 vtec it had 127k miles when I bought it..it has a dc header, intake, aem cam gears?(not sure why..but I'm sure they are stock h22 camshafts), and it looked like it had an exhaust at one time. Anyway after the first week of me having it..I'm gettin on it and then all of a sudden my car jumps timing so I get it all fixed and 1000$ down the road.. but what I'm wondering is if anyone knows if by putting the aem cam gears I would think you would have to do your timing? And if not could they have been a reason for my car jumping timing at 130k miles? And another question is my stock 96 prelude vtec had 140k miles was stock and faster? Shouldn't my new one be a little quicker? all I had was exhaust on the 96???

do a compression test, what wheels are on both?

the modified one was probably run hard and is in worse shape then the stock one

Jumping timing could have been from an old belt or a failed or loose tensioner.

There are too many variables between used cars, particularly high mileage cars, to be able to say definitively why one is faster than the other.

the bolts could have came loose. there are too many variables. personally i would put the stock cam gears back on because you dont need adjustable gears at this point.

2nd, your "mods" on the 95 dont constitute much, if any, power increase

best because it had 5 years of development behind it as far as fuel and timing maps.
