Default knocking noise coming from rear left side of the car.??

I have a JDM 03 honda civic VTI D16 engine.

Ever so often i get this somwhat loud knock noise coming from the left rear side of my car. I do not know what could be the problem. It sounds as though something is knocking or hitting. It happens when go over a hump or there is a dip in the road.

ANy help as to what may be problem.

NB. That my gas tank is on the left rear side of the car.

This means that your car is bottoming out...did you change the suspension or rims??? something has to have been changed...if you have fully stock than you will need to look at the suspension the springs or stuts might be old and worn out..

As soon as i got the car i changed the rims to 17 inch wrapped with 205/50/R17.

I haven't touched the suspension as yet. But i want to put som lowering springs on the car but i want to sort out this problem first.

So what can be the problem? struts need changing?

It doesn't mean that he's bottoming out. It could be a number of things, from worn bushings to a slipped spring seat to a blown strut.

I'm betting its a strut that's junk

it could be all of those things but you really think the sturt would be bad even tho the car is a 2003..I mean I know they go bad quick on our civic's but damm thats bad i have a 04 and thats not good..But I do know if your going to put lowering springs on it will be a good idea to get the struts too right???

The year of production doesn't matter as much as the usage and if there were any aftermarket parts involved. Running a spring that's designed for a shorter stroke on a longer-stroke strut will destroy it no matter what it's age.
