bad fuel economy?
Hello, I just got a 1997 accord ex. Is it normal that it gets about 340-350 miles per tank?
What are things I can do to improve fuel economy?
I have a 1999 Nissan maxima 5spd, that gets about 430-440 miles per tank. I can't believe that a 6cyl will get better milage?

That all depends on how big the gas tanks are... I believe the 97 holds 16 gallons, but the gas light comes on well before that. How big is the Nissans tank?
How many gallons are you putting in after 350 miles? 12??? You should be getting around 29-30 on the highway and less in the city or with a mix. Remember to reset your trip odo and do an actual milage calculation next fill up (Miles devided by gallons put in) for your actual milage.
Usual causes of bad MPG are city driving, needs a tune up, clogged air filter, dragging brakes, and low tire pressure...

^What he said. It really depends on the size of your gas tank. My 96 gets around 360 per tank. Do you know how to calculate your actual MPG? I would almost assume that your Maxima has a much bigger tank but gets worse gas mileage than your accord. I usually average around 28 in my Accord, which has a 14 gallon tank I believe.
Stop Gas-ing so much, use the cruise control
when i 1st started driving i did that all the time. until my parents made me start playing for my own gas,
gas is a pain in the *** cuz i got a 00 accord ex v6, i tihnk its like a 15-16 gallon tank

I am pretty sure my manual says that I have a 17 Gallon tank in my 94 Accord. I usually fill up at about 300-360 miles with city driving. When I am on the interstate exclusively, like a road trip, I can usually got 400 miles comfortably and a little more. My gas gauge works when it feels like, so I use my odometer mostly. I used to get 31.5MPG on the highway, but now, I am getting about 27-30MPG. I still havent figured out what is causing mine.
I have an 02 Honda Accord SE 4door 4cyl Thinks its a 16 gal tank could be slightly bigger. I have a 4sp auto and do both city and highway driving. I once drove as far as I could with the egine stalling when I was pulling into the gas station with 475 miles to one tank. But when I fill it full I ususally don't have fill up again til 425 miles later sometimes 450 miles. All depends how you drive don't drive past 75mph on the highway. Curious whats yours?

mine accord i took to chicago last week its 96 accord AUTOMATIC and i got around 29.5 mpg on highway, cause i went at least 80 the whole way, some times i was at 90,,,,, lol i check on avg mpg on 94-97 accord ex is around 30 on highway and 25ish in city, so mine runs prety close to it, it all depends on ur driving habbit and how well ur car is maintaince, make sure ur air filter is clean and fuel lines are clean,

well if u drive nice dont go over 3k rpm, try stay lower, and dont hit the gas hard, stop pushing gas when u see a red light or stop sign, if u drive a manel dont put in nuetral roll to stop sign cause u use more gas, when u put in nuetral the injector fires gas to idle at 750 when u are in gear and above 1000 rpm ur fuel injector stop spiting gas, i learn that from gassaver.org i think
You can't go by the mileage per tank, you need to go off of mileage/ gallon (IE MPG)
Reset the next time you're at the gas station, the next time you fill up divide the number of miles you went by the gallons you put in.

Figure out your actual miles per gallon and report back.
Miles per tank is a close to meaningless number. If that's the only way you want to calculate mileage, just buy a bigger tank and you'll get more miles per tank.

keeping my foot out of the throttle
I consistantly beat out most of the other people who have my current car but there are some that get 34 out of their CLs..........but they drive 55......but I'll gladly trade 2mpg for an extra 15mph over a long trip

is your car auto? if so does the torque converter engage (2800 rpm for 70mph) if it is anything higher you need to change out your t-stat as it is most likely stuck partially open causing the car to stay in warm-up mode

Good information. Took me a while to figure out that my t-stat was bad, causing my torque converter to stay unlocked. I got like 21mpg when it was stuck.
