I got the Garrett GT30 installed at TNT and Job from Turbopeople was down in the Longisland area to tune it Saturday. JD and Job went out to tune the car, both of them was surprise how efficient the little turbo react and how fast the car is, they went through all five gear in a blink and the speedometer's needle was pointing at the 6 o'clock mark....damn. I ask them will the et goes down from high 11s to low 11s and Job said "are you kidding, this got to be an easy 10 sec car!" I then went for a test drive myself, and all I have to say is OMG!! The car is just plain scary fast, the turbo respond instantly! Compare to my old t3t4e, lets say if I cruz around on the highway around 3000rpm in 4th and gun it, it usually take some time before the turbo reacts and reach full boost. But now the respond is just there whenever you punch the gas. It takes no time to reach full boost! Also the compressor housing and the turbine wheels are smaller than the my t3t4e I though I will get better responds but will most likely suffer at the top end, but that's not the story...the car just pull stronger and stronger till the redline.

I think beside the engine management (DFI) this is the most cost efficient upgrade for my motor. I honestly never though a bb turbo will give me that much of a thrill. At least not my friends turbonectic bb turbos. I think ppls have experienced the GT serious turbo or HKS gt turbo will agree with me. Now I can't imagine the people that bought the GT35r......

Mad prop to JD and Job. I think Job is the God of DFI, He make the tuning seems so easy with his magic fingers and the car ran like butter smooth!!! I never though my car will go this fast because I was quite happy when I was in the 11's and I just want something for faster spoolup and respond for track and autox, the result overwhelms me. Btw, this is a street car with full interior and everything!

 

Those turbos sound badass! It's too bad that the price kicks your ***!

LoL, yeah the price is kinda steep but I got a really good deal for mine, compare to HKS gt serise which cost $3k and up, it really arent that bad. Someone did a group buy here not too long ago with a decent price also. Yup, not everyone can afford them.... which is good!

Sounds like your car is pretty damn fast! What were your numbers, whats your engine size?

 

Ben- Its came with a .50 A/r compressor and .63 turbine housing. not 100% sure about the wheel trim though. I'm runing with a gsr motor.

Viportail- I don't blame them because I have doulbt in the beginning too. when I rode in my friends car with a 60-1 ball bearing and another with a turbonetic t3t4 bb turbo, I was not very impressed. I bought this because I got a really really good deal that I can't pass and to my surprise, it works extremely well. my car did high 11s last season, I ran a 11.80 at 121mph with the t3t4e at englishtown. the only modification to the motor this year is the GT30 and the differnences is night and day. I'm surprised no one is interest in your group buy consider hks sell thier's for more than $3000+. Oh well, I rather see fewer ppls have them than everyone got one like the t3t4 that came with every single kits out there.

I'll try to dyno the car by the end of this month and post up the result.

yes, you've said it three times now, we know its a lot of money. But for those that want the best, IMHO, this is it. I'm the type of person that is never satisfied til I have the best.

 

i will just wait till the price drops down when the bb turbo becomes the norm.

sell wastegate (since the GT30 has internal WG)...200

1500 - 700 = 800 for BB turbo... hmmm its not as far off as you'd think.

Most people over turbo their engines for the street. This sounds like a great turbo for the street. What's the use of having a bigger turbo if you have to wait for the boost to kick in?

 

looking at the GT30 compressor map, and based on my basic calculations, it looks like the turbo is in a reasonable/very good effeciency range all the way from about 7psi up to 1 bar no problem on a 1.8L motor redlining at 8000rpm.

 

exactly what I thought. I looked at the compressor maps, which was the main selling point for me. The BB is just a bonus. BTW, the internal w/g is an option, will have to check the price to see if it costs anymore for it. But I would recommend an external for boost levels exceeding 10psi.

 

I run the Turbonetics 60-1 and am Very Pleased with it. I felt night and day from my T3/T04E. How does this GT30 Compare to My 60-1?? I also run DFI EMS. I am H22 though.

This a turbo, and a turbo alone. Your best bet is to have custom piping made, and buy a manifold, and standalone such as hondata, DFI, Speedpro, Haltech, etc..., and buy manifold, injectors, everythign else you need.
