How to get my A/C working
I have air conditioning in my 92 Integra but when I turn it on, cold air doesn't come out. I can hear the A/C turn on but there's really no cool air coming out.
Any idea how to fix this? What do I need and how much will it cost to get it fixed?
Thanks!

it would either be that your out of hidrand or maybe your compressor is dead. The compressor died on mine and it will cost are 450-500 bucks for a new one. But i would rather get a junked one.

Not if you diagnose the problem and do the repairs yourself

Honestly I don't know. Is there a way for me to find out?

yeah get a rag and a small flat head screw driver, wrap the rag over your hand take the screw driver and depress the head sticking out of the low pressure end, and see if freon comes out. or get a set of gauges and do it the porper way. a cheap freon kit that comes with the gauge form autozone will work as well.

I usually object to this but I feel that it is necessary to tell you. Do not mess with your a/c system if you don't even know how to tell if there is freon in the system. Take it to a shop and have then do a flush and fill if it is empty, that should be around $200-250 or so. R-12 is a lot more expensive than R-134 that's why the price is so high, but you can seriously hurt yourself if you don't know what you're doing when it come to the a/c system. You can freeze your fingers, inhale harmful vapors and even blind yourself.

I agree with all-mtr-teg. It's best to take it to the professional if you don't know what's going on. If you might injured yourself by doing this. But if you must do it.
Low side = thicker piping
High side = thinner piping
You want to test if you have some freon. What Dc2alldaway said and press lightly on the low piping. Do not press the high side.

Alright well I think I'm just gonna buy some R-12 freon and put it in my AC system. Does anyone know how much freon a 92 teg takes? Is there a good place online to buy it?
Good luck buying freon! You can buy a kit from an auto parts store for about $30. But you may want to take it to a shop first.
When my A/C stopped working I just assumed it needed a recharge. So I got the kit and found out my system was full. (the A/C system is not supposed to leak, so recharging it is usually only a temporary fix)... anyway, I took it to a dealer (after I took it to a shop and their "best guy" couldn't figure it out) and it turned out it was the relay - ~$30 part. Cheaper then a new compressor or an A/C recharging.
Good luck.

i'm dealing with A/C issues myself as we "speak." i've narrowed my issue down to the a/c clutch cylinder switch. the fact you can hear the a/c turn on (and should probably "feel a strain" on the engine should tell you that the compressor is working. i would think from here that your issue now is that you're low on r-134... if that's what your car uses (based on the year of your car). you should try going to an auto parts store, buying one of those recharging units with the pressure guage on the tip and read your pressure to see if you're low on refridgerant. if you're low, just recharge it and go. should be a $25 and under checkpoint. You can't legally buy R-12 anymore because it's really bad stuff. You have to take it to a shop and let them do it for you. R-12 IS more expensive than the R-134 & R-134a but it's not something you have to have done very often so it's not that big of a deal IMO.

If you're very careful with what you are doing, I see nothing wrong with checking/adding coolant to your system yourself. If you have an older system with remaining R-12 In it, which you can't buy, you'll have to get it evacuated and re-filled with R134, and a new fitting on the Low side service port. Gonna disagree with Tim2179, I don't necesarrily think that A/C Is supposed to leak, but when I got my last car it had only a tiny tiny bit of Air in the A/C System, no coolant. I used a kit to fill it up to the recommended PSI, and everything held fine for over a year, at which point I got rid of the car. So either it was a leak that took over a year to leak out, or Coolant just works its way out somehow is my thinking.
If you can't read directions and be very careful with what you are doing, take it to a shop, I've filled over a dozen cars, Mine and friends, with the silly Autozone kit and they all work wonderfully, I live in Arizona, its a must have thing.
