k so im kinda curious to if there is a point for my b series ef linkage is SUPER SLOPPY. im talking about the part that connects to the shift rod stocking out of the tranny. the way they designed it with the welded bolts so u cannot tighten them to make the sloppy play from left to right when the car is in gear. does that make sense?? im kinda drunk so i can totally see it not making sense. but im really curious to why its like that. i hate it. o and i have a B&m short shifter. thanks.

have you checked your bushings?

 

i have a similar problem. i am thinking about using some 3M urethane to make my own bushings...anyone tried it?

 

i also have the polyurethane shifter bushings...

 

I know what part you speak of; the hindging part that contains the bitch pin... Not the stabilizer bar (which most of use put poly-bushings on), the actual part of the linkage that moves the change rod. I haven't seen pictures or read any articles on anyone cutting this piece apart to tighten it up. I think that if it gets bad enough you just replace that part of the linkage. I'm in the same boat as you, minus being drunk LOL

 

so why does it need to be so loose and sloppy ? why cant i just cut the welded loose bolts that are on it now off then put my own through and tighten them so that there is no or very little play left then loctite the nut on. why hasnt anyone tried it. lol im gunna have to be the first to F sumthin up. lol

 

It doesn't need to be and really shouldn't be loose. I think there is supposed to be a material (plastic i believe) inside of the cylinder that the 'welded bolt' is threaded through. I have two linkages at home, one VERY loose on the car and a lower mileage one off the car. I'm thinking of cutting it open myself as well. Just replacing the 'bolt' and tightening it won't take the slop problem out. Gotta fill that void with something.

 

hmm. my linkage is brand new. yea im gunna just cut the bolts and use washers to tighten it. im sure it will feel alot cleaner while its in gear
