i'm actually having the same problem, the outer tie rod on both sides is just rocking back and forth, but mine seem to be bad joints, so i actually ordered new ones for both sides from majestic, coming in tomorrow. i hope it fixes my problem, if not, it's inside to the rack and pinion... :-/

there is a nut on the inner tie rod that tightens on to the outer tie rod so it doesnt move

true but when you twist the OTR, and grease just squeezes out of the boot, um yeah, it's time for a change haha. and besides, i have to take the OTRs off anyways to replace the rack and pinion bellows on both sides, so might as well hit 2 birds... don't want to waste the money and time getting 2 alignments done. still need to find somewhere around here that can get my car on their lift. everyone says my cars too low and won't let me take the bumper off at the shop to do it..

so you ordered tie rods for both sides? youre saying what i circled in my second picture was bad on yours?

im not sure what the inner vs outer tie rod is? and for the nut: is it #30 in the diagram? that one i checked and is tight. or it there something under this boot i should look at?

sorry, OTR? and for the lifts, use a couple of 2"x8"x3' pieces of wood. (and this is assuming you have 2in of clearance and that the problem is the lifts are too steep to drive up on without destroying your bumper)

These parts do not change whether you have PS or not

The inner tie rod end rotates freely inside the steering rack, so if yours is able to rotate that is normal. If it's moving because there is something loose, then you just need to tighten up the jamb nuts. How loose is it?

If your inner tie rod end has come loose from the rack (the threaded part), then you would need to remove the steering boot and tighten that back up and use a new lock washer.

haha, i know they dont change whether you have ps, i was trying to avoid someone saying, instead of fixing it (had it been in the gear box) that i should just convert it.

ill be ordering new boots, both are torn. and its pretty loose.... like a 2yr old girl could rattle it around... surprisingly my car still drives perfectly straight. however, my tires need replacing and thats the only one that the belts were actually showing on.

and we're talking about #14 the tie rod lock washer?

Bah, just take out PS!

Yeah, if it's that loose then something has come undone...or unscrewed however you look at it. Definitely get that fixed

Yes, #14 is the lock washer, it's pretty important.
