How are the Kumho 712 tires on wet roads?
I am thinking about picking up a set of Kumho Estascy 712 V-rated tires to replace my factory michellin on my gsr rims. However, before I do, wanted to ask everyone's experience who had these tires.
How are they on rainy, wet road? Do you have control of the car? Does it skid or seems like the car won't stay put to the ground? How is the road noise?
I had Falken Ziex 502 V-rated tires once and they were HORRIBLE on wet weather. My car skidded once with those shitty tires and almost went bye bye. I will never buy another set of tire from Falken again.

I've had mine for about 1000 miles and been through some very nasty NC thunderstorms and they seemed to shed water pretty well. Not as great as some I'll admit, but for the price, they can't be beat for their over all(incl. wet weather) performance. I've never really pushed them in the rain for good reason.
They are excellent in the rain, they let you pull your car out of just about any mess you get it into.....they saved me from having a wreck when I had some bald Michelin XGT V4's (I hated those damn tires) on the rear, and Kuhmo 712's on the front and I was going around a turn kinda fast and my rear end slid around my front in a 360, but the 712s gripped so damn hard the whole car pivoted around the tires keeping me from going off the side of the road (VERY narrow road)....
I swear by Kumhos...

Nitto NT-450's

I have yet to find a tire I like better in the wet. The stock Re010s on my ITR, then the P-Zeros, then Potenza RE-71s, and then finally the Kumhos. Nothing better thus far...

I haven't experienced a better tire yet! Cheap, great traction (laterally, they suck for the track....205/40/17 that is), and the are EXCELLENT in the south Florida rain! No hydroplaing at all! Kuhmo 712's are it!
Control on wet roads - Excellent
Handling on wet roads - A LOT better than normal
Road noise - Bearable
Keep in mind this is with the Z-rated 712's.
As far as dry-weather handling goes, they are terrible.

I'm sorry...but I must interject, I have owned a set of NT-450 and a set of the Kumho 712's and I must say that the Kumho tires are by far a better tire than the Nitto tires...I drive pretty hard in my car, and the Kumho tires have lasted pretty well...all you have to do is make sure that you adjust the tire pressures until they are where you like them.
I also have a set of Azenis on my stock rims that I just reinstalled for the summer

P.S. Just remembered...don't get the v rated tires, get the Z or Q rated tires.

do any of you have the 711's? Im thinking about getting these, since i dont go to the track or anything i'm not too worried about high-end performance, but i still don't want a loud slippery tire. Are they comparable at all to 712's? all I know is they're cheaper and rated differently
The Kumho 712 Ecsta's (v rated was what I had) are O.K in the wet, nothing exceptional really - but they are better than stock, any decent tire is better than stock really. If the Kumho 712 are the best wet tire you have tried so far, then if you get a chance try out the BFGoodrich KDW do so - it's wet traction blows the Kumho Ecsta 712's dry traction out of the water. Kumho 712 Ecsta's are very annoying while autocrossing too - they squeal like pigs and really don't have that high an ultimate grip level.... it's very annoying hearing "SQQQQUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUAAAA-AAA-AAA-AAAAk" as you're going through the turns. The BFGoodrich KDW corners 'infinitely' better - and it does it without making hardly any sound at all! I'm talking ZIP noise (save for road noise of course..lol) until I get on the accelerator a little too early and spin the rears a little as I loose traction - and then the sound is only "chirps".
Cliffs: The V-rated Kumho 712 are ok for wet weather, but doesn't even come close to the BFGoodrich KDW's wet performance...heck only a few tires are close to the BFG KDW's wet performance.

is about to find out.Teggy is getting some brandy-new 205/50W-15s tomorrow to replace her very tired D60A2s. I'll report back as soon as it rains (shouldn't take long
).
Well...I wound up with V-rated 712s. That's what they had...and I needed tires something awful, so...
Drove in a bit of rain. Nothing heavy, but enough to obscure your vision and get the road nice and wet. The 712s felt completely unperturbed, and they hadn't even "worn-in" yet! The other nice thing I noticed was that they don't grab onto ruts the way the D60s did...so they're definitely better in that respect.
The ride...firm. Not intrusive but communicative.
My tires need to be deflated a few PSI...I imagine they'll improve quite a bit when I do.
Noise is acceptable...there's some tread howl and some "rushing" noise, but it's very low. I imagine they'll be noisy sumbitches when they're worn out tho.
So, I'd say: V-rated, AA traction, A temperature, 340 treadwear? I like, I like.
